Interesting feedback on ebay user...

OK, it's not amazing or anything, but This guy on eBay seems to have bought an amazing amount of P3/Intel CPUs. Never seen so many. I wonder why he would pay eBay prices for these things? 😕 Or, at least, go through eBay to get these used chips?!
🙂

From EBay:
Feb-02-02 $108.26 CPU INTEL PIII 500MHZ SLOT1

From Pricewatch:

Pentium III 550E 256k 100 MHz Front End Bus Speed $ 78 (Compgeeks.com)

hmmm..... just goes to show people will pay any price for something that is listed on e-Bay..... thank god 🙂

maybe he is paying with stolen credit cards or otherwise illegit funds and thinks that making distributed purchases will be less likely to get noticed.

No, that is a totally different chip. These are Katmai procs he is buying. They ARE worth what he is paying. The reason is simple. Most of the older BX mobo's in servers and workstations are not Coppermine capable. Coppermines are 256k full speed cache and a lower voltage. These older Katmai procs are the last upgrades that these older servers and worksations can handle. For example, you have a server that has a PII350 in it with a TON on storage. You need a little more power. BUT the box doesn't take a CuMine proc. So you by on of these(from price watch):

IN STOCK, Pentium III 550Mhz SLOT 1, (512K)100Mhz bus w/heatsink & fan -OEM $ 168 + $10.85 Insured (from UPGRADE SOLUTION)

Intel doesn't make these anymore and demand is still high... hence prices are high.

I knew someone would say something like that if I posted.... I should really know better than to try and post something technical here. It always leads to me sticking my foot in my mouth 😛 😀

I has been schooled....

<< But he is also buying some 700, 750, and 800mhz chips. >>

Not very many. The majority of his purchases are P3-500Mhz Katmai cores. I'd bet he's an IT guy with a medium sized company that is upgrading their older servers.

He seems to sure be paying top dollor for used and slower CPUs. He seems to be paying $110-120 for these older CPU's.

True, but I'm sure it's still a lot cheaper than upgrading both cpu's and mobo's (and possibly RAM, etc.)

<< look at his about me page
it links to a computer reseller
weird.....
>>

Yep, and he's selling a lot pf P2-333Mhz CPUs, many in matching pairs. Pulls, no doubt, from the systems he upgraded with his eBay purchases.
