Well, if they would lay down the 2 Big Mac's, Apple Pies and large milk shakes then hit the gym they would not have this problem.

Most fat people are fat because of what they eat and their refusal to exercise.
Wow....thanks!🙂

😛

You'd be surprised by the people that insist that it's genetic and they are big boned. They don't eat more than the usual person.
I know...I'm just being a wiseass. 😛

People, being people, will latch onto any excuse or rationalization they can to explain away problems without having to actually do anything to solve them. Compound that with prevailing attitude that "I'm so fat now that I'll never get back into shape, so I'll just have another donut and not worry about it." and it's not hard to see why things are the way they are.

I also place some of the blame at the feet of modern urban "planners". Most of the streets here in Atlanta don't have sidewalks, the roads are narrow, and people drive like assholes. Telling your kid to "go outside and ride his bike" is almost akin to a death sentence. As such, a bike ride entails loading everything into the car, driving to the nearest park/bike path (of which there are few), unloading, riding, and then reversing the process. A total pain in the ass for all involved.

It's not necessarily a question of QUANTITY as much as QUALITY. If you ate nothing but chocolate for a month and I ate nothing but an equal quantity of raw vegetables, guess who would be off better at the end of the month? Yes, there will always be obese people - but the fact remains many of them could get up and begin exercising, eating healthy if they were motivated to do so. Many don't. End result: large population of people sit there and eat chips all day.

Birmingham is like that too. Of course maybe the problem isn't because of the urban planners so much as the fact that they know people are too lazy to walk anyhow, and so why bother making sidewalks?

Nah....they just don't want to spend the money. People and kids are out all over our neighborhood every evening and they have to dodge cars. There are areas of town where the grass on the side of the road has a damn groove worn into it from all the people on foot. I'm not saying it would be a magic bullet to solve everything, but WTF are you supposed to do if it's not safe to turn your kids loose outside? It takes a big commitment/time from parents to do the park thing all the time and most families can't swing that.

I'm waiting until the liberals get back in office and institute free healthcare and classify obesity as a disability. Maybe then I can sit around the house all day do nothing but get paid with free benefits.

😀

For the vast majority of people, if they just ate better and exercised they could avoid being fat. Some people have to try harder because of their metabolism, I have a pretty slow metabolism so if I don't watch what I eat or exercise I could get pretty chubby pretty fast. Now I'll admit some people may have some kind of medical condition (I'm not a doctor, I don't really know) or something, but that's not the majority of people.

But I still like this whole, see how the other people feel. High school seems to be all about the popular people making fun of people who are fat, or ugly, or awkward, or nerdy, or who's parents don't have a lot of money or whatever. I really think a lot of those people would benefit from something like this.

I didn't realize bone jiggled like that.

I was pretty fat when I was in elementary school. For the most part it wasn't an issue until 6th grade when my family moved to a new school district. At my old school, I grew up with everyone and nobody really gave me a hard time about it since we were all friends. I remember some friendly teasing, but nothing mean-spirited. As soon as I switched to the new school district, it was a whole different experience. Everyone was mean to me and I basically became an outcast doomed to hang out with the other outcasts. It really does permanently affect your attitude towards life, as after that I became extremely shy and introverted. When someone talked to me, I never knew if they were being sincere or just mocking me or making fun of me.

Depending on your age, being fat really isn't something you have conscious control over. It's not like when I was in the second grade I really could say to myself "I think I'll go on the south beach diet and get tons of exercise". You pretty much eat what your parents feed you. If your parents feed you unhealthy meals or too much, you don't really know any better than to just eat it and get fat.

I believe around 8th grade I finally started to lose weight and by the time college started I was back down to an average weight.
