Interesting: eVGA's entire 7900 series (except 7950) is on "Backorder"

After going to NewEgg to see what is on sale, they have a regular eVGA 7900GTX that caught my eye ebcause it comes with a free copy of Hitman. When I clicked on the "Manufacturer's Website", it shows on backorder. Then I checked their entire 7900GT/GTX line and it shows that the entire line is on backorder. :thumbsdown:

I guess they are stopping the sale of the entire line to see when Nvidia will improve the QC of the 7900 Series. I'm sure all of you have read of the various artifacting issues that has been plauging eVGA, BFG, XTX.....etc.... Knock on wood, but my MSI GTX is holding up :thumbsup:

From what I heard its not nVidia that has the problem but companies like eVGA. Supposedly the nVidia reference cards are just fine. Its the manufacturers like eVGA that made some bad cards. eVGA even made a statement saying they were going to fix the problems. Its not nVidia that needs to fix anything. That was the official spin anyway from what I heard.

Nvidia is not building the boards for them, they get a refence design and then make the cards. Supposedly the whole "bad batch" thing has been fixed a while ago.

Actually this is confirmation that eVGA is selling cards quicker than they can make them and crappo companies like BFG can't sell their stuff at any price. :beer:

I bought an EVGA 7900GT CO about 3 weeks ago for a friends build. It's working flawlessly. Today I bought the same thing for myself from Newegg. I ain't scared......

So, the reference cards are not built at one factory in China and eVGA writes their own BIOS? It just seems like eVGA is getting a lot of flack. Is it because they sell more cards than anyone else? I also hear that BFG and XTX was plagued by the same problems. Not the restart the flame on the 7900s....

I really want to OC my MSI GTX but am afraid :confused:

The problems should be fixed with most of them from what I heard. It was faulty voltage regulators. Evga and xfx were most affected because they have the highest clock speeds. BFG were much less affected because they have much lower clock speeds. Either way, the newer cards bein sent out are modified.

However with that said, it seems like people still have some issues with certain cards. : / All I can say is, its mostly xfx and evga due to their high overclock speeds.

I like BFG. I think XFX and EVGA went overboard with OCing at such low voltage on the GPU AND using a crap stock cooler.

The problem isn't GPU related. It's somewhere in the memory susbsytem. Symptoms tend to go away when the memory is downclocked to below NVIDIA stock speeds. And btw, it's not only on overclocked models. The newer "modified" cards being sent out have the same problems. I know for a fact.

I have two regular 7900 GTX eVGA cards running perfectly.

I went with them due to lifetime support and warranty. The overclocked cards had an extreme amount of problmes over the regular ones.

Cards at nvidia stock are also prone to problems, they just took longer to materialize.

BFG is my first choice among NV-based manufacturers. Indeed, even with their relatively weak OC'ing when 7900 series were introduced first, I figured they're getting the top-line chips from NV as they used to. They just couldn't advertise as they did before, probably due to other manufacturers' complaining (to NV). Guess what? My BFG 7900 GTXs have been running flawlessly in SLI @700/900 (with 50MHz delta, which makes it to 750/900) since day one. Market decides the prices. Given equal choices, I'd always pick BFG over eVGA or XFX.

Personally, I'd still buy eVGA as my first choice. Only problem is that it could be one of the original bad cards. Not sure if eVGA ever recalled the ones they had sent out or just letting folks send them in as they get them. I do know however that eVGA has said they'll replace it with a good one if you do happen to get one of the bad cards. XFX and BFG do make a good product so I wouldnt be too worried about them although I'm thinking eVGA has better customer support.

How do you jump to the conclusion EVGA stopped selling their top end product because of so called artifacting issues?

I would say the reason is on backorder is due to more demand than supply.

I stepped-up to a 7900GT CO and it's been working flawlessly for several months now. It's even OCed with a Zalman VF900 HSF.

I bought an EVGA 7900GT KO from Newegg a few weeks ago. It worked flawlessly for 2 days before it started artifacting and causing my monitor to flicker. I tried an RMA through EVGA, and I got another card that also failed after 2 days. After browsing the web and EVGA's forums, I realized that my problems were not isolated--there are hundreds of people that had the exact same thing happen. Unfortunately, they decided to play RMA lotto, with the hope that eventually they would get a working card. I bailed out and returned the original card to Newegg for a refund, and sent the RMA paper weight back to EVGA. Stellar service doesn't make up for selling a defective product, IMO.
