Well, I was driving to class from work, and I saw a fender bender, or more of a 40mph-slammed-into-a- stopped-car on the free way and immediately pulled into their lane with the hzards to stop incoming traffic.
Suddenly the car who had hit the other starts moving foward, and thecar that was hit follows. I think they are moving off of the road so I tail them to see if anyone is hurt.
Suddenly, the suspect floors it a la a cops "hit and run scene"
Naturally I followed him
I try to flag down a cop in the closed X HOV lane, who as it turns out has already seen the guy fly by and left in persuit. Finally I pull up to the scene where everyone has stopped like a mile away, and the suspects car is appearantly all but on fire. As I get closer I assume that he must have punctured the radiator or something but once I get close I realize how bad it is....the front end was totalled.
and then, and only then, do I notice the 80s boxy volvo waggon stopped behind. The cops tell me it is a witness but that I should stay just in case. As it turns out the suspect actually hit the volvo.
I was in shock and told them that I thnought the car that was hit was still back there. Turns out that I was wrong.
THERE WAS NOT A SCRATCH on the volvo. NOTHING.....NADA....(this was after a ~40mph rear collision.
Obviously the cops come and ask for my info and stuff, and then the cop was like "..yeah....we aren't sure if that volvo actually got hit either. " I nthe end, you could sort of tell because of scratches, but nothing like with the suspects car..parts of his front end were ALL OVER the raod..ah the beauty of crumple zones.
In the end, the main cop .....
"yeah, thanks for stopping, but it would have been hard for me to let a smoking car with the hood up, that was speeding in the closed hov lane to just keep driving "
In the end, the guy would have had higher insurance rates and a repaired nice japanese car (very nice whatever it was) ...
The guy decided to run...and now he has a f'd up car, MASSIVE insurance rates, and ahs to spend the night in jail...
CLIFFS FOR ALL TO SEE..:
some dude hit someone on the freeway, all but totally destroying his car, and tried to get away by speeding away in the closed HOV lane where the cops always love to pick off apprehensive drivers.
Isntead of dealing with just higher insurance rates, he ran and pwned himself
