Interesting...computer running cooler with slower fans?

I have always been under the assumption that faster fan = more airflow = cooler case. Well my 90cfm 120mm panaflo was howling like a banshee in my new Sonata and I finally got tired of it and hooked it up to the lower-voltage "fan only" connectors. Now you can barely hear it and the temps are as good or better...isn't that odd?

No not really. You want the fast fans as exhaust slower fan for intake. I think that's better than having all fans the same speed. Get the hot air out of the case asap.

Yeah, exactly...thats what I had...only one 120mm exhaust. and temps got better when I slowed it down. That's what is screwy about it.

The PSU, CPU and/or exhaust fan were fighter one another, in some combination. That's what made my previous case so hot...unfortunately, the fans didn't dial down far enough :(.

I wonder if there's a type of smoke you can use to check your cases airflow. Make sure air is circulating good. Instead of just having the hot air blow around in the case.

I'm thinking Marlboro or Camel would work just fine.:D

lol

But seriously there is that stuff they make for fog machines mayby some of that would work. Or Dry Ice Imo probably not a good idea to introduce moisture into a system though.

Yeah I would definitely do that but I have no window in my case so it would be pointless. I would love to see what the airflow is like in this sonata with the bloody holes in the top side panels.

I guess it's possible to have intake fans that can flow more air than can be extracted from the case. Fans don't flow much air at all against any pressure, and slowing down the fan could relieve the pressure and allow a lot more airflow through the case.

Here is my guess;

When you are pulling too much air out of your case, you may be creating negative slightly negative pressure inside the case. Air that comes in via the intakes is immediately sucked back out - it does not get a chance to dissapate over the components.

I havent taken any classes on fluid dynamics and i know only basic thermal physics so take that with a grain of salt.

i have an antec 835 case. in the front i have 3 80mm running full speed in. in the back i have 2 80mm running full speed out. in the p/s there are 2, i think 1 runs up and the other runs out. do i have this configured correctly or should i make one of the back run in?
