LOL that was shocking to me too, I would have swore that Saudi Arabia had the GDP greater than California's, but only of Massachussetts?? Pathetic.

Saudi Arabia's wealth is very concentrated and outside of oil, I'd guess tourism would be their other major industry due to the fact that the major Islamic holy sites are there. I'm too lazy to verify that, however.

Texas has the same GDP as Russia, the ex world's superpower??? NO way.

While Russia was the main player in the Soviet Union, let's not forget all of the other Republics in the USSR that became independent when it dissolved. Even with those, they still won't touch California.

California is slipping. It used to be the fourth or fifth largest economy in the world.

Holy carp--What's wrong with Wyoming?! 😕 Its population is 0.6 million . . .

nothing is wrong with it. Its awesome. why is this confusing to you?

i am pretty sure we keep it a secret so that our population stays low. less people to complain.

My town in California just had to cut back law enforcement back to a single car between 12-4am. How the hell can the state be producing so much and yet can't afford police? It's starting to feel like South America, with the gang activity overrunning the law enforcement.

Just get Arnold to come patrol the streets and scare off the bad guys since he is not doing much anymore.

its flat and barren, thats whats wrong with it

seriously Nebraska has better scenery and its all corn fields

Aparently you have never been here... flat? i am looking at about 4 mountians right now all much taller than any formation in nebraska. we have the wind river range, the grand tetons, yellowstone, parts of the uinta range. I drive over mountian passes all the time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mountains_of_Nebraska 1

yes and you both shoudl realize im trolling. anyway drive across I80 its honestly the most boring road ive ever been on, the landscape is non existent, its scrub brush till the horizon, and yes its relatively flat, in some areas its hilly and you can sometimes see mountains way off in the distance. Yes Yellowstone is awesome, its 1 small part of an ugly state

TBH the part of Nevada between the Utah boarder and Reno is more visually interesting

I'd like to know how much of Russia's GPD is "unreported". I'm sure that their "questionable" GDP has to be at least double what's reported.

Are GDP numbers reliable? Do they factor in illegal activities, like the market value of marijuana grown in California?

We might be suspicious of Russia, but how about Colombia and (ahem) Afghanistan.

I'm from AL. Does this mean we are allowed to start our own 419 scams now? That rich uncle/brother of mine is on his deathbed and I stand to inherit his fortune. In the mean time, I am short on cash and need some help. I promise to repay you tenfold. To transmit the money, we need to bribe a bank official. So could you help me with a loan? PM me your CC info, SS#, favorite place to get a burger, and of course, a signed and notarized power of attorney form. kthx.

😛

pm sent

That's pretty damn amazing if you think about it. Even as crippled as our country is, our inidividual states have GDPs higher than a lot of developed countries. It may not take EVERYTHING into account but it still says a lot.

I lol'd at Washington = Hong Kong though.

<-Texas = Saudis & Russians

you know that the crime rate is down right?

That's cute. I live in the county with the highest median income though 😛

Edit: Damn, 2nd highest. But we have 5x the people as Loudoun so I'm going to pretend we're better.
Having lots of government employees and/or government contractors sucking at the tits of the federal government helps. It's another reason why Maryland has the largest median income in the country.

interesting. an equivalent chart showing GDP per capita would be cool
Actually it won't because the range would become so narrow that it would just be a bunch of developed countries. The only outlier would be Puerto Rico, which isn't on this map.
