Looks really, cool, although I'd have no use for it, it'd be funny to have and brag about. But look at the ridiculous price tag, how could yoiu justify $149 for that? I was thinking something more like 30-40 dollars would be a reasonable price or maybe even a little high. Anyone know any good simple tape decks, that it woudl be possible to make one of these myself with? It can't be too impossibly hard, the hardest part would be making it look professional I would think.

Oh yeah. A jack to run a music device to the sound in of your computer is $1.50-4.00. Who would buy that contraption?

It does look cool, but how much? Can it seriously cost so much to make or can they just charge that cos no one else makes them?

have a look at some places that sell car stereos, take some measurements and if they'd fit, see if you ca find one with a suitable audio jack.

I'm thinking of making one of these myself, i'll make a guide on how to if I go ahead and create one though, I'm looking for what would be a cheap older car cdeck that would work easily... I'm thinking of getting rid of my fan controller, since it's pretty much useless to me, since i got all quiet fans now, and slowing them down just overheats stuff. Then I can get that cigarette lighter combo cup holder for 15 dollars at svc which is much better priced than that cassette deck...

The charge so much because they want to try and make some money. Since four people will buy it, they are trying to recoup some cash. ;)

Seriously, as someone said, an audio cable is like$2. And a walkman can be had for cheap too.

Yeah, my first computer used cassette mass storage. I had to modify a GE portable cassette recorder to work with it. It was a Heathkit H-88 ca. 1980...
. Started with 16kB RAM. I eventually expanded it to 64kB and had to use piggyback sockets to do it! My first diskette drive for it was 5.25", 72kb, single-sided, 40 track, 10 hard sectors. I thought I was in heaven compared to tape. That floppy drive cost more than a 120GB hard drive today and the dollar was actually worth something then too.
. I could envision installing a Walkman-type AM/FM/Cassette player into a 5" bay with no problem. Mucho less bucks! The one at TG looks like it's just a modified automotive unit. Probably wouldn't be hard to do that either - probably plans are available out there on the web already.
