Heh, so my car made the list. At first I was sad that it wasn't first, but when I saw the cars that beat it out - I couldn't complain. Besides the GTI, I'd rather own any of the other cars in the list over mines.

And for those of you too lazy to read the article, here is the list:

Seventh: 2011 Volkswagen GTI :(
Sixth: 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 :\
Fifth: 2011 Nissan GT-R :hmm:
Fourth: 2011 BMW M3 :sneaky:
Third: 2010 Mazda RX-8 R3 ():)
Second: 2010 Lotus Elise SC D:
First: 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder :awe:

Wow, interesting that the Boxter out-handle a Cayman. Unless they never even considered the Cayman in their tests.

From the pics in the article (I am a subscriber) it was that crazy Boxter with the parts stripped from it. The one with belt handles to pull the door closed. You know, the stripped down model that costs $10k more. ;)

It was the special edition Boxter Spider which doesn't even have a normal roof. It is specifically designed to minimize weight and maximize performance. I'm sure if they had a version of the Cayman that did the same...it would be on the list.

They try to act like they're objective by collecting bunch of useless data and then use subjective measures to rate.

There's one universal truth. Lap time.

Yeah but then you can just use more power to make up for it. Perhaps handling is proportional to lap time divided by power/weight ratio?

It's a good read. I'm really looking forward to the lightning lap this year, lots of new contenders on the block, new STI, new Mustang. Should be good stuff.

OP, you have a car that is imho very pretty and a fantastic drive, but as I've said ad nauseum : it needs POWA!!!

I think if Mazda ever gets off their butts and makes a Turbo i6/v6 FR sports car, it's gonna be world-class out of the gate.

Well they've been talking about increasing power for the next generation Rotary to the 300HP range.

It'll still be torqueless tho prolly.

And the RX-7 is going to look a million times better, as it should.

Their grading points are stupid. Drivers seat? Ergonomics? Fun-to-Drive?

Why not throw in Paint color and interior color while we're at it. Or maybe seat warmers.

Carry and Driver is pointless now. They still have their bias, they just try to come up with random BS to deflect the reader and still rate cars based on their bias.

Oh I dunno they've pulled off some shockers lately. They rated the current A6 ahead of the old and new 5 series. Given their BMW bias that surprised me.

Sadly I agree. And I have an absolutely astonishing example of this. Only their objective testing interests me, I couldn't care less about their editorializing and opinions.

I'd still take the Z06 or the M3. :)

Handling is great, but it is too subjective. It's not just about numbers. A Z06 might post awesome numbers, but it's gonna be a sledgehammer compared to a scalpel such as the RX8/boxster.

"Feel" is what depends on the driver/preference.

So? Im saying why was it even included.

Just like everybody else here I know damn well there are plenty of cars that handle significantly better

Yeah most likely because they use a different layout or are not in production any more.

As a FWD car, the GTI is as good as it gets. It might not post the best numbers, but IMO it feels better then let's say a Cobalt SS, even though it gets hammered on paper.
