Interesting call on the radio at work today

Being in a production facility all management, maintenance, QA and lead persons wear radios for easy communication throughout the plant. This afternoon a lead person gets on the radio and calls for a manager to meet her immediately at the break area outside. Being the most senior member of management at the plant at this time I respond to find two police officers standing outside the break area fence (whole plant is fenced in for food security). Police officer asks who called 911 from the plant. I ask him what number showed up as the calling number and it was our FAX machine.

Sad thing is, this is not the first time our fax machine has done this and it is in a locked area.

Oh well, at least it was nothing major.

Not at the moment. We just spent a bunch of money on this machine (one of those industrial fax/scan/copiers) so we will have a tech come and look at it.

Is the fax line part of a PBX that requires dialing 9 to get an outside line?

EDIT: And it's always possible that the phone line is jumpered to another location besides where the fax machine is at.

The fax machine has its own line and does not require any special characters be dialed to make a call.
