The new True series is something I have been waiting for.
There are three SEPARATE +5V, +12V and +3.3V derived power rails
There is no "sharing"
Thats where the name "true" came from
The 5V and 3.3V on all power supplies up to now had a TCO Total combined output of "X" watts. For example
on the 412, which is a far superior PS to the equivalent Enermax, has 245 combined 3.3 and 5V watts. But
there is a RANGE of amps available, like 28-40 and 16 to 28 for each. If one is high, the other can only go
low. If one is maxed at 40, the other can only have 16. Further aggravating the problem is mobo makers
are now borrowing from the 12V line (which used to be for just IDE drives). Everyone has big stacks of
RAM now due to previous cheap prices. RAM uses amperage. Athlons are big juice suckers, geforce cards
are getting worse and worse with each new version. With no longer need for 3.3V 2X AGP, some mobo
makers arent even using that voltage - confirmed on another forum when someone cut the orange wires
and computer ran fine. As your box demands get greater and greater, the old ATX 2.1 standard just isnt
working anymore. P4 ready means an EXTRA 12V square connector for the mobo. AMD doesnt have this.
Hats off to Antec for noticing all the probs people are having with freezes , and trying to do something
about it. While a super power supply might not cure inadequate/faulty power distribution on mobo, without
a top notch PSU, you dont have a prayer.
