Interested in starting an FTP Server

The program that I'm using seems to be very formal, so I would like to believe this is legal before I even think about using this. If it isn't, please tell me and don't give me any advice. I'd appreciate the information. (If this is the wrong section for this, move me please)

Me and a selected group of friends across the country need a way to share our files. When we all get together once every so many years, we all exchange information via Lan (we used to bring external HDDs before we knew about the wonders of a Lan connection). Music, art, you name it we all stockpile eachother's stuff. If I can get an FTP server up and running, we could bring this Lan online and not deal with a series of indepedant downloads.

First thing's first, I haven't the slightest clue on how to make one of these. I searched up the Wiki for Filezilla and I got confused almost immediately. Any place to start, direct advice, instructions, or if their is a legal notice Id really like to hear it. Thanks ladies and gentlemen.

If you've all got network connectivity you could just use normal Windows file-sharing without any 3rd party tools.

You could use an FTP server, but it will be much easier for your friends if you can simply use a browser or built in OS file server. You should check out BarracudaDrive, which provides an easy to use file server and web file manager.

You could install BarracudaDrive on your home computer, but I think in your case that it is better to lease a cheap online server such as the following:

I do not think you will find anything else that is easier to use than BarracudaDrive.

You can use Hamachi to create a virtual LAN and share how you would at a LAN party.
