If it's going to be an indoor cat, you really don't even need to bother with shots. Getting it fixed (if it's not fixed yet), will cost like $100 or so. Food is fairly cheap, but remember to buy can food too.

And don't buy the kitten... look in the papers or visit the SPCA and pick one up for free. There are so many around that need homes, it's foolish to pay for them.

A yearly rabies shot is required by law. Don't mess around with rabies. The shot is cheap anyway.

Just curious, how many cat owners here let their cats run wild? In other words, they are not house cats.

In my dad's house, we've always had outdoor cat's. My dad won't put up with the fur.

My friend used to do that. Then the cat never came out of the woods one day. Damn nice cat too. I had forgotten about it.

Maybe where you live... not where i live. Why the hell would a house pet that never goes out, need rabies shots?

My junior year, me and my 3 roomates got a cat. Some girl gave it to one of my roomates, he was trying to get in her pants so he decided to be nice and take care of it cuz her apt didnt allow pets. So here we have three 21 year old males and a kitten named Coach June Jones (or just Coach for short) The cat really grew to hate us. the guy who was supposed to change the litter box never did, so Coach got back at us by pissing in our clean landry baskets. We'd have keggers with booming music and it would hide scared for its life in the closet. I swear one night i caught one of drunken roomates molesting it, i think he thought he was messing around with a girl. Eventually the cat was trying to commit suicide. He used to jump from our 3rd floor balcony and NOT land on his feet. He seemed somewhat dissapointed that he did not die. My roomate would lure him back with a can of tuna. We finnaly convinced him to turn Coach into the humane society, but by then im afraid the cat was scarred for life, and would never like humans again.
