Well, he's got a 4th Infantry Division patch on... that's in the plus column.

He must not have any grenades for his M203. And I only heard the machine gun open up once...

I'm still trying to figure out where he was shooting at, and where the machine gun fire was coming from. He has a Trijcon scope on his rifle, a pretty capable low-power scope, but it looked like he was shooting up the mountain way in the background (with the caveat that it was a fish-eye lens and may have distorted the view.)

He caught a round right through his M203, it's the part where he drops his rifle.
 
I think there are a few far off, but towards the end you hear a burst right back behind him... the only one I heard that would be covering him.

Yes, but after he was already working his way down the hill. I suppose a HE 40mm would cause too much collateral damage... don't want to hurt anyone.
 
You could see rifle rounds ping around by his feet and richochet off rocks right next to him. So its NOT staged. No one would be like "Hey go hide 400 yards that-a-way so they can't see you, and spray randomly within inches of me!"

Yea sure.

Around the time he drops his rifle, other rounds are landing nearby. You can see them ricochet and kick up dust and sent little bits of rock flying.
 
At 2:46 you can see where he is taking fire from, looking over the rock down the hill to that building, right where the fence steps you can see the muzzle flashes...

Where was his team? If they are anywhere near him, how do they get pinned downed at those distances? I don't even hear anyone other than the guy in the video which is odd. If he's hit, I would think his team would be shouting back at him.

Maybe since he was wearing full body armor he took the obvious risk of descending, his return fire did nothing except give the shooter a better idea where he was..
 
I watched this. thought the guy was stupid.

My nephew watched it (on a short break from Afghanistan on his 2nd tour). he said the guy was stupid and put his squad in danger. Now they have to rescue him. what if he was really injured? they couldn't let him stay out there. NO it is not fake.

reading the comments on the utube list others have said the same.
 
Seems the guy was calling for a ref to come look at if he really was hit. Glad to hear he made it out OK. A decoy doesn't work well when you get killed in the first 20 sec. Wonder why he chose the front side of the hill to descend instead of using some cover.
