Guys;

What do you think with Intel's technology? We know for a fact that Intel's dual core offering wont be at par with AMD'sdual core if we talk about processor. But what about Intel's chipsets? They'll be releasing a whole lot technology which business cannot also passed on to these. The iAMT, Intel IO technology, virtualization, etc etc. I saw and read the iAMT papers and it is so promising. And there was 1 comment that says that with Intel's technology in platform, AMD wont still snatch a big market share unless they also offer this once Intel's releases the product.

Lastly, on dual core server. Dempsey platform has a lot of improvement (from theinquirer site) From FBD to dual FSB (which they said can be at 1333MHz at release) plus all the *T's they are about to offer. Do you think Dempsey platform can be competitive as to wat AMD platform can offer?

Much of the technology intel is working on won't be released until next year at the earliest, and AMD is working on equivalents for many of them.

It is impossible to tell what dempsey will do to Intel's performance numbers, buecause its not out yet. It should help eliminate on of the Dual core P4's bottlenecks, the slow FSB, but how much that will help is anyone's guess.

I agree.

Still, by the time Dempsey appears, AMD will have their next-genertion dual core solutions ready. Back in the 845/848/865/875 chipsets, they had the best plataform on the market; now those days are gone, and the real value of an intel plataform is long gone.

when intel releases a new chipset, within six months there will be a new socket/chipset. look at the current situation, intel's new desktop chipset the 925xe for dual core will most likely be replaced by a new socket/chipset, due to "just" slapping two prescotts together. if you decided to go the intel route, wait till they get their house in order. amd is seeing the same thing with the m2 socket, but the 939/940 support will continue alot futher.

Dempsey's Dual FSB is already achieved by E8500 "Twin Castle" chipset on the latest Xeon MPs with 667MHz FSB. They said the E8500 is Dual core ready and will be used with future dual core MPs.

FWIW - Intel does make the best chipsets. i.e. Intel Storage Matrix, HD Audio But unfortunately, the Intel cpu's are a different story.

it's a sensible strategy that forces amd to play catchup again. p4 is a short-term problem that'll go away soon enough. note that a platform focus does not mean that the cpu's will lag... they still power the entire package.
