I know Intel made it so big because of the Phi, but damn. I have to wonder if the size is going to be an issue with customers.

I haven't seen it in any "official" publication but I read about this on another forum {H} and word is it'll be for 28 cores 56 thread Skylake-EP and up to Six Channel DDR4 which explains the extra 1636 pins on that there bad boy.

Intel is introducing 28 cores for the enthusiast Market and AMD is just bringing 8c/16t to the table makes me start to wonder if Zen might be to little to late? I know this is a Intel thread and I am sorry to thread cap here but is AMD planning to counter this core count right after launching Zen? I am kinda wanting to see head to head competition core vs core. not 2 to 3 generations old vs what ever is out at the time. :( Is this Intels plan to kick em when there down?

28C/56T is not coming to the enthusiast market, nor is LGA 3647. Enthusiasts get LGA-2066 and up to 10 cores with SKL-X.

Lol another one of these threads? this is like the 3rd time someone posted about LGA 3647 being the next HEDT consumer socket.

I didn't see any other LGA 3647 threads in the CPU subforum so I figured I'd share. I know based on my history of the internet if it's already been posted I'll know it soon enough haha

And I don't think I ever said this was the next consumer socket. Figured I'd share it as a testament to current technological progress.

yeah well this is the first time I remember seeing this posted as well.. Still pretty cool even if it is server grade only.. besides its only a matter of time before enthusiast grade hardware catches up to these monster socketed server sized CPU's.

Well, Skylake Server is 6-channel memory. Skylake-X is "only" quad channel. I have to assume HEDT will be quad channel max for some time.
