Intels Merom misses tape out by a month.

Thought some Intel fans might see a little Prescott relief in sight with this news. I know I do. If Merom comes out this soon, I'm going to have to put the brakes on my 3500+ rig. Just for now.

Enjoy. And please, this is for information only. No flames please. Be civil. You included Intelia. 🙂

Merom

NOTE: The 2006 mentioned in the article seems to be a typo from the jist of the wording. They may have meant 2005 because the following sentence says "most likely in Q3 2006. If some people work a few long nights, there may be one or two working at IDF in a month."

Speculation. Rumor. The Inquirer.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The only reason I see any possibility for this is Intel's new relationship with Apple.

Merom is the mobile version of Intel's Netburst successor, I believe. Conroe is the desktop version, and was supposed to be released around the same time as Merom.

I thought Merom wasnt supposed to be out til the first half of 2006??

When something gets taped out, the company probably intend to release the chip in about 4 months (ish). Merom may very well be a 90nm chip if it comes out this early because I don't think Intel is ready to produce on the 65nm process. But who knows?

I guess when we see Merom depends how much of Intel's multi-billion dollar profit from last year they feel like rolling back into R&D and manufacturing.

Merom is definatly a 65nm chip, Yonah and Cedar Mill are also 65nm, and should start ramping up very shortly.

It's still netburst.

Actualy I don't think it's netburst, it's supposed to be a differant architecture, more similar to pentium-m than netburst. Cedar Mill/Presler are still netburst, and really just prescotts shrunk to 65nm.

My understanding is it's smithfield/prescott taken to 65nm with some tweaks. It's not a high IPC design and has target speeds of 3.8 Ghz..Help me out if im wrong, I am little lost on Intels roadmaps/Inquiere articles 🙂

Yachts aren't stackable, are they? 😀

Cedar Mill and Presler are prescott/smithfield shrunk to 65nm and tweaked with 3.8ghz target speed, yonah is 65nm dual core pentium-m, and is a true dual core unlike Smithfield and Presler. Merom is a entirely differant animial, it is supposed to be a high IPC design, with a new architecture, and wasn't supposed to even be ready this early but there isn't much info on it so it's still pretty much all rumor, supposed to be a true dual core with 4mb of L2 cache.
