Hope it's not a repost:

nVIDIA has as we earlier reported decided to acquire chipset manufacturer ULi. Now it seems that an important part of this purchase was to become more active in Intel's high end segment. It has no plans to go for the low end segment where the situation has become more or less that the one first who wants it gets it, as Intel has had trouble meeting with the high demand. Considering ULi's many attractive value chipsets there are indications that NVIDIA will also focus on the low end chipsets in the future.

"Stepping into the entry-level Pentium 4 chipset market will need to be further evaluated, although people are curious whether Nvidia?s acquisition of ULi may herald its entry into the segment, Huang indicated."

Interesting that it states Intel was having trouble meeting high demands.

It is very true, intel cant even put out bridges fast enough to move the motherboards. That has a lot to do with OEM quantity discounts and subsidizing through processor/mobo bundles though.
