Intellimouse Explorer Scan Rate Question

I've heard that version 3 of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer scans at a rate of 6000 (versus the old version of 1500) but do you only get the high scan rate through the USB port, or the ps2 as well? I need to use it in a KVM switch which is ps2 only...

AFAIK the scan rate is independent of the USB or PS/2 port. Those ports determine the refresh rate.

I'm not sure about those particular specs, but my understanding is that the lower rate is a wall that the PS2 port has hit. Even with the older mouse revision, you were only able to improve the scan rate by using the USB port.

I have a KVM swtch too. I just hang a PS2 mouse off of it and unplug that from my main machine. Then I use a different USB mouse for my main comp.

Ps/2 samples at 200hz, USB at 125 hz, USB lags for me when I use it in high-cpu intensive tasks, which is unacceptable IMO
