I think the 8 dollars shipping kills the deal, but thats my opinion... how are the reviews on this mouse?

newegg still has the 3.0a for $30 so it is a decent deal if you need a mouse.

Amazon sells the same models except that it's wireless. How is wireless for web browsing & regualr accplications and how is it for gaming?

ok deal, not-so-ok mouse. logitech makes the best mice. i used that exact mouse for about a month, and it skipped more than i expected... i use a logitech mx-310 now - haven't had a problem once.

I've always loved the Intellimouse Explorer line, how does this compare to them?

Personally, I liked the first one better than 3.0. I have large hands, the 3.0 is slightly more annoying because it's smaller.

I thought this mouse just came out...but you've had it for a month?

I haven't even seen any confirmation that the wired version is out. Perhaps it is in the OEM version, which this appears to be. Or the picture is just wrong, and it's still the wireless version (as mentioned in the text).

I'm going to have to try this out. The 3.0 fits my hand better then any other mouse. I'll have to stop by an electronics store to test it out. Pop the 3.0 over to the woman and use the 4.0. :)

I have the wireless version sitting right here. Oddly enough, I also bought it at Amazon. $22 if memory serves.

For regular use, it's ok. The range totally sucks, max 4 ft. For gaming, HORRID. Extremely laggy in UT2k3. It's definately not for the FPS gamer.

As for the Intellimouse Explorer 4.0... For those of you that have not used the new tilt wheel mouse, I *URGE* you to go to Best Buy and try it before you buy it. Myself (and all of my friends who have tried it) can't stand it. They have removed the "click" in the scroll wheel, so now it's a "smooth scroll", great for browsing, HORRIBLE for games. I use the scroll wheel for my weapon selection in UT. With the smooth scroll, it randomly selects weapons. I'm extremely disappointed with the new tilt wheel.

I'll hang on to my Intellimouse 1.0 and 3.0's. Infact, I'm going to buy a few 3.0's for stock before they're discontinued.

I tried the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0. It's cool looking, but the added weight of the two batteries makes it feel like you're dragging a paperweight across the desk. Also, the new shape of the mouse stresses the weight of your hand at the center of the base of your palm - VERY uncomfortable after a while for me. On top of it all, they removed the program specific button function that the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 has using Intellimouse 4.0 software...

Removed the center click? Whos the genius who recommended that? probably the same genius who removed keymapping from the side buttons..

I mean how the hell am I supposed to reload?

I use the 2.0 wireless version at work, and I love it... I don't notice the weight like cswake mentions. I have pretty big hands so the only thing really resting on the mouse are my fingers, and it's pretty comfortable when then I rest my wrist on the mouse pad. The range is amazing, I move back about 16ft from the receiver and it still works, I can't move any further back because of a wall, and it won't work through the wall either. I do notice that if you put the reciver too close to a monitor or other high output electronic device it does start to pick up noise and then the range drops to about 1 foot... About my only thing I dislike is the side scroll doesn't work with ps/2 through my KVM switch, pretty soon that won't matter as I won't need the KVM.

Like most people do. Use the "r" key.

And what if we're not WASD players?
No key mapping and no center-click?? Looks like Microsoft doesn't want the gamer's dollar anymore.

$8 shipping does make the deal not so hot but I need a new mouse. I have had the 3.0a for a year or two and it has mechanical problems that are starting to piss me off. It double clicks randomly when you press the button once or unclicks when you are holding the button down etc. A few of my recent Logitech mice have developed the problem over time too. Hope this one lasts for at least 3 years.

I just read the thread for some impressions and maybe I won't buy it now. I can't believe they removed the click move for the mouse wheel. And I just downloaded and installed Intelltouch or whatever they call the mouse software. 5.0 is awful, I can't set the side buttons to control and shift now. MS needs to fire some people if they want to stay in business. This is just like their keyboard which have unstandard layouts. Talking about missing the boat here.

I use the wireless on one of my laptops at home. I have put that mouse through boot camp and back. It has never failed yet. I even have the receiver hidden behind the laptop. Yet it has never missed a beat.

Of course, don't forget Microsofts free mouse replacment deal. Yesterday, I faxed them the bottom of 3 of my mice. Two are pretty old, but one is a wireless explorer. It has a small chip on the top. Still works though. But I figured, what the heck. I wonder if they will send the receiver too.

No, go back and read that -- he's talking about the click of the ROTATION of the wheel (it's apparently smooth now), not the removal of the wheel BUTTON.

BTW, it is listed on their site now (the retail version, that is), but MS doesn't sell it yet.

I have the wireless version of the 3.0A, and I love it. Nice feel to it. Not so sure on the 4.0, but this one isn't giving me problems, so I am keeping it. I keep around my older logitech mouse for gaming, as wireless mice aren't that great for any FPS games (I don't play FPS games unless I'm at a LAN)
