Intelliflix - dvd rental for $8.25/month, 3 at a time

They claim they have more distribution centers than Netflix.

From their website:

"Through the acquisition of one of the oldest online DVD rental companies, Intelliflix has quietly become the fastest growing movie and game rental destination. In 2004, we surpassed Netflix with the largest number of distribution centers in the continental United States. This allows us to provide our customers with typically 1-2 day delivery to most areas of the country."

I wonder who they aquired???

Edit:
I see they bought DVD Barn in 2004. Story here with a review

Look at these terms from Intelliflix:

Damaged Medias
It is the member?s responsibility to return all media to Intelliflix in substantially the same condition as it was received by the member, normal wear and tear excepted. If a media is returned to Intelliflix in a substantially worse condition than it was received by the member, and the media is unplayable even after our attempts to repair the media are unsuccessful, we may place the member?s account on shipping hold while we investigate. If, in Intelliflix? sole and exclusive discretion, there have been excessive incidents of media damaged while in the customer?s possession, we may charge a replacement fee of $25 per DVD and $50 per game damaged. We will not hold the member responsible for breakage that occurs in the US Postal Service. However, if we deem that there has been excessive breakage through the US Postal Service related to a customer?s account, we reserve the right to cancel that account in our sole and exclusive discretion, with a pro-rated refund for the remainder of the service not used.

Lost / Delayed Medias
It is the member?s responsibility to return all media to Intelliflix and to report medias as delayed, either during the time a title is shipped to the user, or during the process of returning the title to Intelliflix. We understand that occasionally items are lost in the mail. However, if lost items become excessive, determined solely by Intelliflix, there will be a replacement fee of $25 per DVD lost and $50 per game lost. This includes final rentals that are being returned during the 14-day grace period after a membership cancellation.

Here's an online dvd rental blog. Online DVD rental blog
The dates for the blog do not seem sequential but there are some recent entries worth reading.

Edit:
To be fair I should say Netflix has the same sort of disclosure for lost DVDs:
But they do not make any claims about damaged media which intelliflix does. I rented from Netflix for nearly 3 years and I had a few damaged DVDs in that time and never a problem from them. Same thing with Blockbuster. In my free trial I had a broken DVD sent to me and I just sent it back.

NETFLIX
"Also, you may be charged for movies that you lose. As an additional member benefit, we will replace the occasional lost DVD free of charge. However, in the rare event that the number of lost DVDs on your account becomes excessive, as we may determine in our sole and absolute discretion, we will notify you that your account has been placed on hold for review and may charge your Payment Method for the estimated cost of the lost DVD(s). We will alert you of any potential charges prior to charging your Payment Method."

They promise next day delivery to over 400 locations and even same day delivery to people located in the Boston, MA area.

I am only posting this extra stuff because I was thinking of singing up. 99.00 for a year of 3 out-at-a-time seems like a great price. But..........

Here's another website with reviews from Intelliflix/DVD Barn.
71 voters give a 2 stars out of 10. Yikes!

DVDRR.com

Read how many people were charged 25.00 per disc up to a year after they cancelled.
Yeah I know that they could be legitimate charges by Intelliflix, but when you see so many complaints and the complaints are so similar. I have never heard of this happenening with Netflix.

I guess you can try it for a month, only a risk of $8.25

Nope. Got to sign up for the year AND PREPAY to get that rate. Otherwise it's 16.95/month.

$99/year isn't bad compared to the other online rental places, but that's a lot of cash to throw down in case you don't like it (even if you can get a refund).

However, if their turnaround time is faster than the other places, might be a good deal! Of course, I think everything is slow in Alaska.

I dont see any adult titles listed on intelliflix 🙁*

Actually, it looks like they do have adult titles.
Probably NSFW
Question is, can you rent an adult title with the $8.25/month service.

EDIT: After further reading I found that to get games or adult titles you have to upgrade to the Premium SuperPass which is 14.75/month prepaid for a year. Still might be worth it, mattering on how good their game selection is.

This is my first post usually I'm a just a taker and not a giver on this forums, but I felt I had to put in my 2 cents. I just finished up a project from school comparing these DVD by mail rental services and have the low down on most of these services.

Intelliflix has a lot of claims on what they can do and deliver, but they just don't deliver on many of their promises. They claim next day deliver in my area (DC Metro) and other areas, but fail b/c they continue to send you movies from distribution centers all over the country. During my test trial I received movies from PA, VT, WA, FL, MI, just all over. I would populate my queue with 20 movies, but most of them were unavailable and I could never tell what move they would send out next b/c of that. Blockbuster and Netflix are head and shoulders above their competition. The pros about Intelliflix is that they have video games and adult titles, but good luck getting your hands on any of them.

Take care fellow deal seekers

Wow, thanks for the info.

I don't know anything about Intelliflix, but that $25 damage charge sounds ridiculous. I personally wouldn't risk it. Signing on for a full year seems too risky. I could just see someone try it, realize it sucks, and lose the remainder of their money or be stuck with crappy service.

BTW, I'm in the northwest of Boston, MA area. Tried netflix and blockbuster, and blockbuster wins out easily. Additionally, ballbuster gives free in-store coupons each month, making the $15/mo (which beats nutflex's $18/mo) worth it, fo sho.

Just my .02.

I thought about joinging, but the fine print stipulates no refunds for cancelation, not even pro-rated. I prefer better customer relations policies.

Thanks for the info - you've turned a corner and grown up here to turn around and give to others.
...much appreciated - and keep posting! 🙂

i wouldn't sign up with a unknown dvd rental company for a year, you won't know if you like it or hated it till you had it for a few weeks. i live in upstate ny, and netflix gets my movies back in 1-day from time i drop them back in the mail, this may not seem like a big deal, but on a good month, i can get 12-15 movies.

only bad thing about netlfix is new releases seem to have a very long wait till they are available otherwise there service is good.

btw, blockbuster has started to send me 4 movies at a time after they made a mistake in sending me chronicles of riddick instead of chronicles of riddick: dark fury.

two thumbs up for ballbuster.
