By "intellectual" do you mean "abstract," or just that there is a good deal of thought and strategy involved? What degree of luck? Can an "intellectual" game involve rolling dice?
San Marco, Web Of Power, Taj Mahal, Elfenland, Carcossone, and Tikal immediately spring to mind as being fairly involved intellectually and rely very little on luck other than drawing cards from a deck.
Abalone is pretty close to chess in that it is completely abstract and doesn't rely on chance at all.
Other games like The Settlers of Catan, Diplomacy, Cosmic Encounter, Shadowlord, Bohnanza involve larger elements of chance, but are still very strategic and intellectual because they rely so heavily on forging alliances with other players and being able to surmise when to abide by the alliance and when to turn your back.
And don't forget Go.
