If intellectual elite = close-minded and self-satisfied, then there are enough here to reach the requirement. 🙂

What a weird world you must live in; you are one of the most delusional, paranoid, one-sided partisan hacks of the forum and here you are calling everybody else "KOOK". What a deep level of fantasy you live in; it reminds me of the "Inception" movie, where you are 2 layers deep (regular partisan hacks are one level, then there are people like you who take it down to the next level of crazy).

..so what do you think?? will mom and pop buy your next light bulb or will you spring for it??

more then anything else..this forum is a grand collection of pop culture KOOK fringe liberals living in their parents basements with a single light bulb swinging overhead of their dusty dingy taco bell laden desk.

Not all.
There are no basements in Florida!

I doubt most of the people on here are.

As far as the common man goes, I am one of the 'intellectual elites'. (Imma edumacated) However, intellectual elites usually go to ivy league, come from wealth, get some well paying gig doing whatever, are intelligent, and are surrounded by like-minded people. I am not that and I will never be since I did not come from wealth.

I know I'm not very intellectual or elite. But the abject stupidity of those who think they are never ceases to amaze me.

:hmm::whiste:

Something to think about the next time you hear a politician complain about "intellectual elites": If you are on this forum, chances are you is one. Whoa.

[Points with cigar]

Nyaw! Shee! Nyaw! The poor and huddled mashes are offended by our educate . . . er . . . elitisht minds, shee! Boo hoo shee! Nyaw!

[points again with cigar at pathetic majority of populace, this time with disdain]

LMAO! Right on!

It's just a code word for people that have figured out they are power-hungry greedy psychopaths. (Apologies to the 1% of politicians that actually care about anything more than advancing as far as possible in politics)

Intellectual elite is just political code used when talking to lower income/uneducated people. When someone wants to use facts to dictate policy instead of feeling that is 'intellectual elitism'. It is a way to take power away from whatever side is using facts to back their argument.

These days conservatives seem to be much more likely to use this argument as the current conservative movement has a decidedly anti-intellectual slant thanks to evolution and global warming. Rest assured that both sides will use it when it is advantageous to do so.

As for this board being elite outside of the political use of the word. 30% of Americans over 25 have a BS/BA and 8% have a Masters. We probably have a higher percentage of people with college educations on this board than America as a whole if that's a fair measure of intellectual elite. So...maybe?

It's fascinating to me that some cultures do in fact embrace intelligence, viewing it as some manner of a positive attribute.

Meanwhile, in the US, smart kids are ridiculed endlessly starting in elementary school, and permitting word to get out about your own high intelligence can be political suicide.

Very bizarre.

I'm pretty good at pretending to be stupid, to the point where it actually made me a little dumber.

Now I have to "switch on" the smart mode. And I find it rather tedious now. Like when arguing with some members of this forum and they are trying to be academic, its rather cute. I grade their essays and sources. :awe:

But really, they try rather hard considering its a forum. I'm not impressed by the amount of energy they put into their post to make a point that is wrong anyway. It just makes it more tedious to argue with them. If they win by attrition they chalk it up to their intelligence.

So thats why "smart" people are looked down upon, because they aren't actually all that smart. Just try hards. The "smarter" someone pretends to be the less likely they are able to admit when they are right/wrong and once you lose that ability you actually lose your intelligence because you stop learning.

"Smart" has changed alot in my opinion and its far better to be stupid now. Because the only people left pretending to be "smart" such as that librarian chick are actually pretty dumb in their shortsightedness and closed-mindedness.

I dated an intellectual snob once. I'd hardly call her elite, but she certainly thought she was. She was, and probably is still very proud of the fact that she was an archivist working as a librarian for Stanford University. Where I felt she failed was in valuing the trappings of education over genuine intelligence, and looking down on those who didn't possess those trappings.

100% this. She works at a library wowwee. I'm sure what she does is tedious and difficult, but its probably dumb because no one cares, or it doesn't have any real world significance. Now she is trapped in that role for ever and ever and ever. You HAVE to be slightly deluded to wake up everyday and work that tediously for something no one really cares about.

Politicians seem to be talking to uneducated people quite frequently.

We also have a member class here called "Elite Member," and we're ruled by a group of cruel, unelected, all-seeing overlords who unleash punishments of unspeakable terror glorious, god-ordained, benevolent moderators who love each and every one of us, as they maintain order here.

I make more money than you, and I'm a democrat.

Discuss.
