Intel X6800 or AMD FX AM2?

OP - Listen, next time just don't bother posting. Frankly, you're all over the place here. You want a top-end processor (since when have they EVER been the best deal???), then you don't. You have a strict MB budget, then you don't. You don't want SLI, then you do, and have an extra video card sitting around. You ignored all the advice in the thread, but obviously did o outside research either (nforce MB). Even the answer to your basic question posed in your first post in painfully obvious. I have no problem with uninformed users asking questions, but if you aren't going to listen to anyone, why post at all?

invest in a good board. Get the $150 p5b-e or $190 p5b deluxe. Serious overclocking power to be had in the c2d chips, you want a board that can take advantage of that.

It's a POS overclocker compared to the 965 and 975. Nvidia will be releasing the 680i chipset soon which should overclock very well.

Getting a $200 motherboard that can't even OC worth a damn makes no sense. If you need the board now, you'd be better off getting a non-SLI board and using hacked driviers or going with Crossfire.

cancelled the order on the nforce4 board. i was reading some newegg reviews on the nforce4 one and it seemed like it had decent OC options. i was in a rush to buy something so i took it's word. then read even more reviews on the list and kicked myself. all of my AMD boards have been nforce chipset and have been great OC boards, so i ASSUMED it was good for intel. 🙁


on a side note, i have this memory if anyone wants it for fairly cheap. since it doesn't seem to work on this mobo i got or the nforce4 one. just something i had laying around and was hoping to use it when going to ddr2.

That's a better board choice there. Core 2 Duo boards may cost a lot, but the better chipsets offer some insane FSB overclocks (which are necessary to top out the processors, interestingly enough). All the limits of overclocking from the s939 days have been shattered, so Nforce4 doesn't look so good anymore.
