I'm about to buy a laptop for college, a Dell Inspiron 1525, and my only concern is that it's got integrated graphics, which isn't a big deal to me since I'll never use it for gaming, but I'm not sure if it's enough for doing any video play back.

Does anyone have any experience with a system using an X3100 and its video playback? I'm not looking to play HD here (well, maybe a 720p video here and there?) but just regular DVD rips or recordings of movies and TV shows, scaled to 1680x1050.

You should be fine - as your CPU (which I'm guessing will be a Core 2 variant) will be doing most of the work.

720P and upscaled DVDs should be no sweat.

For video playback, the most important things is the CPU and Memory. I don't think that the video card is very used in video playback.
