Just for reference, Newegg order would have cost me $243 after tax and shipping. Saved me $26.

This is 198 shipped. It is 27 dollars cheaper.
and the mounting bracket is only a few bucks.

I would say this is a very warm deal, but not scorching. a few weeks ago the retail drive could be had for $205, but its definately great to see prices coming down.

I knew they were going to drop before the end of the year and many tried to tell me otherwise:rolleyes:

Well if you're going for a notebook drive, then you don't even need a mounting bracket.

I'm building my wife a new rig in a Lian Li PC-60FNW and it natively supports 2.5" drives. It has four 3.5" drive trays and a 3.5" drive connects from the sides while a 2.5" drive in the same spot uses bottom mounting holes. Got a 3.5" HDD and a 2.5" SSD taking up two of the trays. No adapter needed. :D

Finished installing Windows 7 Pro 64 on the drive. Wow, what a change. Everything is noticeably faster. I even had some games which would slightly stutter at certain points which are now smooth as silk. I had always thought the stuttering was caused by my GPUs.

Amazing stuff. Now anybody know a way to optimize the drive for Windows 7 environment? Does the trim command get sent automatically by Windows 7? I already turned off indexing.

Also, my Windows Experience score went up from 5.9 to 7.3. My CPU is now my limiting score, lol.

That's pretty much it.

I'm trying to resist this purchase. My thinking in prices will be better in the near future. But I'm also thinking I could put this in my desktop right now. And if prices get better, I can always upgrade my main computer with a bigger faster SSD, and put this in my notebook.

LOL Mike, same here. I heard that Intel will be releasing 25nm in Q4 '10, with sizes of 80, 160 and 320GB, with estimated prices similar to drives half their size currently (so a 160GB would be $200-$300). That may just be speculation, but it's enough for me to try to hold off. Hard to do though.

You only go around once in life so you've got to grab for all the gusto. At least that is what the beer commercial said. I think I am going to wait for at least another week. They might start to push the older drives with discounts.
