I'm not optimistic here, but is there any way to get TRIM support on the Intel G1s? Tried searching the archives for this but the search feature appears busted, at least at the moment for me!

I have an 80gb G1. I've gradually expanded the number of games I actively play and 80 GB is now just a little too small for me (even another 20GB would be enough headroom). The cheaper way, without leaving SSD, would be to get another 80GB and RAID, but without TRIM maybe its worth sucking it up and getting a G2 160, and trying to sell the 80GB G1..

Intel hung us out to dry. I'll be shocked if the G1's get any sort of firmware update again.

That'd probably be your best bet, but I don't know how much success you'd have selling the G1 drive, for precisely the reasons you don't want it anymore.

Can't you just run the Intel Optimizer tool on a weekly schedule or something and achieve close to the same results as TRIM?

Nope.

For all that care, I use Tony Trim on my RAID0 G1 array and it has given me great results.

Basically it consolidates all your free space and restores that space as new.

ATM, this is the best you're gonna do for Intel's G1 drives.

Even un-trimmed, and un-tony-trimmed, you'll have faster small-file reads than the other mfr's GC'd and trimmed SSD's. I've seen quite a bit of fluctuation in benchs (up and down) over time, but there's never any stutters, and no perceivable delays. I gladly traded bench numbers for my $229 G1's on XP (which doesn't support trim, anyway).

If you seriously are upset with G1 performance, can I ask what extreme efforts you've gone to to make sure the rest of your pc is as fast as possible? R U running an OC'd I7? :)

(I -did- overclock my E6600 and ram...)

The G1 without TRIM isnt that bad even after months of usage, unless you like to play SSD benchmarks all day long (which also makes things worse, of course). Intel still sucks for leaving their early adopters out in the rain - probably not even for technical but economical reasons.

I bought these drives knowing full well that nothing was promised except the performance I paid for.

Both of my drives were bought at a decent price (225.00 and 185.00) and I have no idea if a TRIM command would even be possible but it really doesn't matter.

Here's the history for my two X25's over the last 5 months. The 3 gaps in the lines are where I ran PerfectDisk's Free Space Consolidation, and the first/leftmost gap also included CCleaner's Wipe Free Space.

These drives have 2 TB and 2.3 TB written to them.

There was care taken on my part to use the words "APPARENTLY" and "Nice job by Intel IF TRUE." I don't actually own one to test. Just glad that I made the decision to buy an Agility based on OCZ's support, which now appears to have been the right one. There's no getting around the fact that TRIM is a necessity for a maintenance-free experience. Intel really dropped the ball here. Maybe if enough people complain they will eventually make it right.

The G1 firmware included in the 1.5 package is the old 8820
firmware. No TRIM support included. It is included in case
someone has a G1 that had not been updates in a long time.

No prob, Bradley.

Post your AS SSD scores when you get your drive, and then again after a month, and we'll compare them to my 1st gen X25! :D
