Here is the deal.

Compusa is selling Mouse/Base combo for $40 next week (see the CompUSA scans provided by Hawkeye NJ in his CompUSA thread here).

They are also offering dropping price of Intel Wireless GamePad (which includes a copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2) to $40 and offering $40 rebate when you purchase both.

I looked at the copy of that $40 rebate and it says "...with a copy of sales receipt and a copy of the UPC from package...". On top it says "Mail this form with a copy of your cash register receipt and ta copy of UPC code from product package... But it also says "This offer cannot be combined with any other offer on the same product". Still, to me, it seems like $30 rebate on base/mouse should still work, which makes total cost $40 + $40 - $40 CU MIR - $30 Intel MIR = $10.

See the previous thread on those acessories here

The Intel rebate is included in the box (as well as in the PDF file provider by dumars above).

The CompUSA rebate should be in stores, since it is their advertised deal. Just in case it isn't, here is a copy of what they have:

copy of Cusa $40 rebate

This was not the original form from a rebate pad like CompUSA usually has - what they had in the store looked like it was third-generation photocopy. Plus, it looks like it was proofread by a blind monkey (with item number of gamepad being wrong and at least one spelling error). Still, it is what they had.

not thread crapping, but just a heads up, the Intel mouse and keyboard eat batteries really bad, I change the batteries on my Logitech about once every 4-5 months, my roommate had to change the batteries in his intel 2 weeks after he cought it.. but for $10 it is a nice set..

That was mentioned in the other thread (in my original message) as well. But, rechargables should take care of this problem. Anyone has used them with rechargables and care to share how well it works?

Two question on the intel rebate.

Instruction #2 on the rebate form says:

"Complete the information on the back of this original certificate."

My certificate was downloaded form the intel site. Is that still considered an "original" certificate? I hope so. :)

Instruction #4 on the rebate form says:

"Include the orginal UPC bar code cut from the inside panel of
your box."

Is there really a UPC "inside" the box? The box I have has a section on the outside side panel with three bar codes and, what I believe is the UPC bar code (it looks slightly different than the other three). I really don't want to open the box if I don't have to.

There is a rebate form inside the box. Look at the bottom of the box - it is not taped or clued together. You can fold out the flap and open the box without ripping or cutting anything. Once you do that, take out the rebate inside.

I don't think there is anything like UPC inside the box. But you'll be able to see it once you open the box.

Thank you Clammy3 for the instructions and for finding the deal!

BTW: My two year old boy likes your crab icon. To him you are "crabby" rather than Clammy!

Has anyone tried using any of these? They only have win2k beta drivers out for the devices so I'm wondering how well they work in win2k.

Thanks,
tg

I've been using a MS Intellimouse (with wheel) forever and ever and ever...

I like it alot...but this $10 wireless deal interests me :)

Anyway, is the Intel mouse comfortable to use??

And...they say it has 3 buttons...left/right mouse...and does the wheel click too (i hope so)?

Yes, you can click wheel. And I feel it's pretty good, a little heavier with 3 AAA batteries, but if you just move it you won't feel the difference.

I use it on IBM T20 with w2k, I even don't need to install the driver and it will work just like the MS wheel mose. So I haven't try the beta version w2k driver yet.

BE CAREFUL

I just re-read the intel rebate form that came inside my box and noticed this:

"...must be postmarked by April 30, 2001."

I was just about to put it in the mail! So I downloaded the form from one of the links posted here at Anandtech. This form, although it looks exactly the same, had a January 31, 2002 postmark date.
