Hi i was wondering if anyone had some experience with setting up a wireless network based on intel's equipment? i've tried everything so far to telnet into the AP but no luck.

I tried to telnet from a wired network (netgear 8 port switch) and then i installed an intel wireless card into my notebook to see if i could telnet from there and still no go. My last resort is to go out a buy a serial cable but i don't really want to do that. Anyone have some ideas for me?

I've used there client cards but not there AP's (Intel). What is the default IP of the AP and what IP are you giving yourself. I assume that you need a DB9 cable to physically connect to the AP and while you may not want to spend the money, it shouldnt be much. Maybe 10 bucks and it will be a good piece of equipment to have for just such occasions. When I used the card the software didnt help much in giving the IP of the AP, but here is one thing you might try. Shot in the dark, but if you go to Cisco/Aironet's site and download their client utitility it might tell you the IP of the AP you are associated to, assuming you are associated. It will give the MAC and IP of a Cisco 340 AP and while I can't guarantee that it will do the same for your Access Point, it might be worth a try. It definitely will tell you if you are associated or not.

thanx ktwebb, the info from the intel AP monitor for the client shows that it does have association with the AP, but it only displays the mac address for the AP which doesn't help me much because even when i do convert it to decimal to find the ip it still doesn't show up.

I will try the cisco client utility next time the AP loses access to the win2k dhcp server (thats my problem now). Once the AP loses its ip that it was assigned i can't find it anymore. Hopefully the cisco utility will help, and i hope it doesn't conflict with the intel utility because essentially they are all the same from what i can tell. cisco, 3com, and intel all use intersil chips for the cards and the software from the screen shots seem to confirm this.

may i ask how you have ur wireless network setup? is it just wireless or is it another segment to ur wired network?
