But I remember reading an article explaing that Intel only sold half of what they expected to sell after the huge marketing push. I would have expected them to sell a lot better but i think people are still hung up on the mhz game.

Digit-Life says Centrino/Pentium-M based notebooks accounted for 42% of global notebook sales in 2003, which isn't too shabby considering it was only released in the middle of March, 2003.

So what, the article was released in November 2003, making the 42% figure is more or less accurate, and clearly making Centrino a big hit, especially in the lucrative business market where thinner, lighter notebooks are extremely popular.
 
I'm an AMD supporter, but I would still buy a Centrino based on what I have read, if I had a strong need for a true mobile unit. I got an XP2500 barton HP laptop for $699 including burner, and couldn't pass it up though.
 
hey, i got taht laptop too! did u get urs at best buy? dude, i love that laptop. i'm gonna get an additional 512 ddr ram later on and a 60gb 7200rpm drive for it. the drive is gonna gost like $230.

A market analysis says centrino might take up 43% of the market, so automatically Intel has 43% of the market with Centrino? I don't understand your logic.

A market analysis with good ties to the all-important Taiwan computer industry, using the latest sales info, with over 80% of calendar year over estimates that for the entire year 43% of all shipped notebooks use Centrino. Certainly, far more compelling evidence than your recollection of an article that said Intel is selling only half of it what it estimated for Centrino.

ZDNet seems to think otherwise. I can vouche for this from personal experience.

I'm currently schooling in Boston, I believe i've seen 3 new centrino laptops to date around campus compared to the endless P4-ms. If that 43% figure is even slightly correct, its certainly not from average consumers.

The small company I work for bought 4 of them in the last 6 months to replace older p3 laptops.....Battery power among other performance features were appealing.....I am using one right now!!! It is a monster FH cruncher ppl!!!!

I also outfitted my niece for one going to college this year....

 
And lo, in the late quarter of 2004, there shall come a processor, and it shalt be called the Celeron 64. And it shalt suck with such magnitude as to put Miss Hilton to shame.

They are amazing laptops. I drool over my friends IBM all the time, I would kill to have one. My old P3-M is horrible on battery life and weights a ton. I hate it,but the price was right *shrug*
