Intel will outsell AMD 64-bit chips by year end

Wouldn't be shocked in the least, Intel can market ice cubes to Eskimos, whereas AMD couldn't sell water to someone dying of thirst in the desert.

What are you talking about, Centrino is a hit man.

Agreed. I don't doubt that AMD has good chipsets available for their platform, but nobody sinks as much money into stability/reliability testing like Intel.

Saying Intel= stability/reliability is just as partisan as M4H's comment 😉

I have no idea what ur talking about. My highly oc' AXP havn't reset in a few month now w/ np. And I have a P4 3.0ghz and I can not close the case because of the heat issue, even in open case it still crash at least once a week.

Back to topic, of course Intel's 64 will outsell amd's 64, a 8yrs old kid can make that prediction.

Nothing new here.

Its personal preference, nothing more.

I strongly feel that intels chipsets are far more stable than VIA/ALI. NVIDIAs track record isnt stellar either, but its certainly better than the other 2. I have no experience with ATi chipsets so i cant really comment on that.

Its intels fault your case ventilation and or heatsink sucks. I see.

Let's not do this 🙂 Everyone can attest to their own personal experiences and how one or the other fails where the other succeeds. My opinion is that properly configured both platforms are equaly stable and reliable

You are forgetting that AMD is producing chipsets for the A64 and they are quite good.

I somewhat agree, while i am hardcore anti-VIA everything, i do build and love Nforce based A-XP systems for others. Nforce3-150 has some problems but i might look into Nforce3-250.

Is that really a suprise? Intel is huge and AMD is ALOT smaller. Intel can produce way more chips than AMD can and has tons more money for testing etc... Nothing to shocking here.

I am glad that you agree Intel heatsink suck since I have an open case.

If youre using the stock heatsink and its at stock speed and you have heat problems with an open case, id reseat the hsf and apply AS5, somethings wrong with your setup.

I agree, I am running a 3.0C with the stock HSF and 4 hard drives (including a raptor) and my idle temp is 36 C and under a full load it has never went higher than 52 C. So, if you have heat problems, its not Intels fault you bought a crappy case.

Hu? Yea sure Intel is selling them but they haven't met their sales goals at all, esp after pushing them so hard in the market. Read up, i'm fairly sure Intel fell short by about half, but if you have articles saying otherwise your welcome to enlighten me.

Who says Centino is a hit? Has Intel ever said just how many centrinos they have sold?

Intel notebook sales are down...hummm, I wonder why?

As far as Intel selling more AMD64 chips than AMD. Just FUD right now. From Glascocksy.

news.com article

I have no idea the accuracy of that article, but we'll assume it's true...

Centrino sales have doubled in the last six months of 2003. That would definitely not qualify as disheartening for Intel. It takes a while for new products to become accepted, as they don't become huge sellers overnight. (The Itanium is another excellent example.) People tend to stick with what they know, and the Centrino name is still very new to the masses.

I didn't doubt Intel was selling a good many of them, its an amazing chip. But I remember reading an article explaing that Intel only sold half of what they expected to sell after the huge marketing push. I would have expected them to sell a lot better but i think people are still hung up on the mhz game.

Agreed. Doesnt prove who makes the better CPU, but I don't think the thread author cares. They both make blazing fast CPUs and both of them are rock hard stable. Any one who says AMD sells unstable cpu's is talking out their ass.

If Intel sold less than AMD with all the funding, retailers and vendors behind their backs, they would of been out of business a long time ago considering how much it takes to feed such a beast.

Actually, I don't think that AMD is going to get into the chipset business. They make chipsets for new CPU's so they can provide a spec for other manufacturers as well as ensure that they will be able to launch when they want to. When the Athlon was first launched, there were AMD based Athlon mobo's, but it ended up being a choice (if you can call it that) between NForce2 and VIA's KT chipsets.
