I work in tech so the word "diversity" has a whole different meaning. I think we all know what diversity means in this context and if i were their shareholders, i'd be selling them off while i can.

This doesn't surprise me. When IBM got big on outsourcing everything, the only US employees we could still hire in the US were ethnic minorities. I think that HR had a quota system they were working with... they would gladly lay off 5 white guys and send their jobs to Mexico and China, but don't you DARE lay off our token black guy :)

Any link or anything to back up the claim that IBM could only hire minorities? When I was with GTS they got rid of just about everyone, minorities included. In fact the only two that were spared on the contract I was on were two white guys.

Oldie but goodie from the founder of Cypress Semiconductors: Valley Should Stand Up To Jackson's Divisive Tactics

To be fair, those minorities were probably mostly Asian. Intel has at least been careful to refer to underrepresented minorities. Asians are vastly, vastly overrepresented at Intel. So much so that caucasians are technically slightly underrepresented - not that this is some kind of problem, but it's funny when people only talk about white people in this.

Everyone else left in that department were white guys besides the lone black dude. I can only imagine what HR would have thought of that.

The lone black dude eventually quit, and they replaced him with a guy from Burma who didn't seem to know jack squat about technology.

In some Silicon Valley neighborhoods, Asians and Hispanics aren't the minority. Caucasians are!
