I thought for a while that it was Intel & Nvidia vs. AMD & ATI and after reading an increasing number of articles it seems that Intel isn't even bothering w/ AMD anymore but focusing everything on Nvidia. Am I wrong?

Yes well, I don't recall a CEO from AMD or ATI ever threatening to "open up a can of whoop ass" on Intel. That comment apparently didn't go over very well. (Obviously there's a whole lot more to the Intel-NV spat, but that comment by the NV CEO was sort of a highlight moment...)

BTW, there's already an ongoing discussion about this over here.

Its not that intel has forgotten about AMD at all , Intel has had AMD in mind for along time. THe problem with NV is this Cuda is good. Intel needed to cut NV off at the pass. Hence the x86gpu. Now this gpu needs to be good . But it has to be great at the things cuda will do all using x86programms.

Now cuda has put a crimp in intels long term planning . Cuda also put a crimp in ATI's plans. The thing that people just aren't picking up on is this. The moment AMD bought ATI it changed ATIs and AMDs direction for ever. Long term this was incrediable luck for AMD or Hector is really really smart.

AMDs center or direction if you will has always been X86 processors. OF course competing with intel . But the moment they bought ATI that all changed. The marketing of AMD64 just became null and void(Thats Why Intel found AMd buying ATI amusing with the whole AMD64 and all.) . AMD had found itself in Intels world once again . The world of EPIC . Intel has a great super scaler . ATI/AMD have SPs in the short term with out Intels help ATI's SP are useless compared to NV using cuda.

But guesse what Intel has the power to change all that for ATI AMD right now . As I understand it Intel ATI are working together on several projects right now . I am sure getting AMDs /ATIs SPs to run x86 instructions is a top priority.

Watch closely now as the tone between intel and AMD settle down. MS has to go with the 2 CPU giants and they are bothing heading at EPIC

Parallel processing FTW? Perhaps Nvidia has an ace up their sleeve.

The GTX 280 makes nehalem look like a celly at floating point operations. If CUDA catches on do we need more powerful CPU's? In the future will we need CPU's at all?

Actually Amber Hector did call Intel out. Intel didn't really reply because they couldn't . What intel did was put its nose to the wheel and fought back a good fight and a fair fight from what I seen . AMD Had the lead and sat on it . Intel worked hard and overcame relentlessly tolling to keep at the top of tech . A lot like the rabbit and turtle race . where the trutle never stopped and kept focus. Thays how I see it . But Intels turtle seen that the finish line is still a long ways off . With the appearance of the energizer bunny in the form of NV. Its interesting that this is going to put AMD/ATI into the limelight but Intel has zero choice on this one.
