Guys I had pretty much decided on a Barton 2500 and OC it to 3200+. However, now the 800mhz intel doesn't look to bad. I could get a 2.6 and OC it pretty dang good. But that may blow my budget, what kinda performance difference would I see in the two?

Yeah, I've read test numbers (can't remember what site) I just wondered if anyone had any ideas or read anything other than what I have. I'll be ordering parts in about 4 weeks.

Do you're own search, this question has been asked MANY times (although in various forms).

I knew this had been posted a lot but I hadn't seen one specifically comparing barton to 800mhz P4...but forget it I'll do it...

Remember....A 2.6ghz 800fsb chip has a 13x multiplier and unless you have a 4:3 option still active after 200mhz fsb you will not be going far even with todays best memory....

13x233 = 3029mhz and with a 1:1 ratio you will need some pc3500 to pc3700ddr....That is only a 400mhz oc and this is certainly no gimme!!! You will need a board with a 4:3 ratio and options up to 300fsb to get the big oc's...I haven't seen the boards yet and so far the 800mhz fsb supporting boards I have seen do not have it...

Barton overclocking is hit or miss right now so if you're banking on 3200+ speeds it's too dicey so I'd get the Intel and play it a bit safer.

All chips are pretty much hit or miss (though the 2100+ seems to be hitting 2Ghz on all chips easy...haven't seen a tbred B 2100 not hit 2ghz)

Not many missing with the T-bred Bs period ;) Some Bartons won't overclock at all, get one of those and your money was wasted IMO.
