Intel Vs AMD CPU, not allowed to compare?

Ok, recently one of my friends began telling me that Pentium 4 and Pentium D procs are slaughtering AMD procs, and even said that the PD EE is literally unbeatable by anything AMD offers. When i reminded him that even the 3800+ X2 beats the high end PD in most cases, and that for raw performance the FX-57 reigns supreme, and that some people have tested and proven that it takes a p4 OCd to 5 GHz to match/beat an FX57 he told me that it's an irellivent comparison. Why? Because apparently comparing a 32 bit P4 to a 64 bit AMD isn't fair, and produces skewed results, and not only that, but the P4 is actually superioir because it is a native 32 bit proc with "better" 64 bit support from AMD. WTF is up with this, is Intel trying to spread a new brand of skewed marketing or something?

Banzai, your friend is sadly misinformed, and doesn't seem to understand that all of AMD's processors run 32-bit apps natively.

No, he's right. The P4 extreme edition is faster than any other 32-bit chip from a company based in Oregon that runs really, really hot.

Actually it is based in CA...Oregon is just its R&D base....We have little manfactruing capacity here compared to Rio rancho, NM and Chandler, AZ.....

WTF? Intel slaughtering, but losing, but it's unfair, but Intel uses "Native" 32bit, 64bit skews results, but beating Intel?

Yes, your friend is sadly misinformed or an idiot.

public class FriendCheckTest {
private String FriendSays; // What your friend says.

/**
* @return Returns the friendSays.
*/
public String getFriendSays() {
return FriendSays;
}
/**
* @param friendSays The friendSays to set.
*/
public void setFriendSays(String friendSays) {
FriendSays = FriendSays;
}
public void DumbFriend () { // All you need to know
if (FriendSays == "PD EE is literally unbeatable by anything AMD offers") {
{
System.out.println(" The Linuxator : ");
System.out.println("/thread.");
System.out.println (" /agree = agree + 1");

} if (FriendSays =="Intel Rules") {

System.out.println("MY MY KICK HIM IN THE BALLS");
}

} else System.out.println("MY MY that's a very good friend you have there, stay in touch with him");

}

/**
* @param args
*/
public static void main(String[] args) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
FriendCheckTest SillyFriend;

SillyFriend = new FriendCheckTest();

System.out.println("What did your friend say ?");

SillyFriend.FriendSays = SimpleInput.inputString();

SillyFriend.DumbFriend(); // Calls the test.

}

}

Yeah, those Pentiums are 64/32 bit the same as the A64's so that argument won't wash at all.

A64's beat all Intel chips, 64 or 32 bit Linux or Windows, gaming or encoding, 2d or 3d, single core or dual core. You name it, AMD is in the lead with current generation desktop processors.

Opterons beat all Xeons too.

It looks like it will stay this way for a while too, since Intel's Cedar mill chip doesn't appear any faster in single or dual core (Presler) versions.

You're friend is an idiot. its actually the other way around, if anyhting. Intel is getting slaughtered by AMD. you wanna know even worse? AMD's procs have a lower set frequency, run cooler, perform better, perform faster, and kill intel at gaming. last i checked, amd beat intel in 28 out of 30 benchies on the dual-cores. ya, i guess your friend's right. intel is winning. :confused:

Yes, as has been said its in santa clara CA. The extreme edition has hyperthreading and dual core so that would make windowx detect a quad core processor. I have never actually seen the EE benchmarked against the best X2 but i have been told its faster with hyper threading on. Its the only dual core Intel chip with hyperthreading.

Also, AMD released their new K8 architecture to beat crap out of Intels comparitively old netburst, it stands to reason that the currently unnamed new Intel architecture will kick sh*t out of the comparably old K8 one.

It matters in what apps your friend is talking about.
'
In each test each CPU will beat the other handily.

Game, AMD

Encoding INTEL
