Intel vs. AMD 64 bit Question?

I have a question about both amd and intel 64 bit processors. I know amd seems to have the edge in performance at the moment but I was wondering if either is more effective in their ability to handle 64 bit applications or if basically they would be be equally effective in this area. Thanks, Rob

i've seen benchmarks in 64-bit apps where amd was about 10% faster, i can't remember where but the general consensus is that the a64's are faster in 64-bit applications than intel's offerings (but then amd did design the 64-bit extensions)

For the most part, AMD's implementation is better, since the cpu was built around it. In most tasks Intel cpus actually loses performance when running at 64bits, but there are some tasks on which they outperform AMDs. This could be either because Intel's netburst architecture is not suitable for 64bits or simply because they had to add 64bit capability to an already existing architecture. AMD, with a some exceptions, mostly gains performance from going to 64bits.
