intel voltage vs. amd voltage

i have been reading a lot up on this... ppl say the new amds have lower voltages, but threw testing different computers, i have found out that my intel prescott, was running at 1.2- 1.3 voltage level on cpu core, the amd athalon xp's ran at 1.5-1.6 cpu core... and i ran stock fans on these processors... my intel was at 44C when playing UT 2003, the AMD, which was at 55-65C..

athlon, not athalon.

AMD has a slightly higher voltage than Intel with current processors, but they do dissipate less heat for the most part.

The reason your athlon was hotter is because Intel has MUCH better retail heatsinks. Get a real heatsink for the AMD, and it will do better. Also, it sounds like your voltages are kind of low on the Prescott...isn't it supposed to be 1.4V?

voltage is not the only factor in determining power consumption. look up the current draw of those CPUs and multiply by their voltage to get wattage, a unit of energy. also use the same cooling setup.

2. Temp readings vary by board and manufacturer so accuracy is always questionable.

3. So your XP's never under or overvolted eh?

5. when referring to AMD running cooler most mean the A64 vs Prescott.

6. Congrats on buying a CPU that's slower than a NW at that clockspeed

no, my voltages are normal.. intels site says that a normal cpu voltage is 1.3 volts... mine runs stock.. but i hope to get a better heatsink and fan soon, mine is loud as a wolf howling..

44C on a prescot? I'd question the validity of that measurement if I were you. Try an external (non-mobo) temp sensor if you can.
