Intel Turbo Boost

hey guys, using cpu-z I notice my cpu is always running at 3.2Ghz(24x) the lowest I've seen is 3.1Ghz(23x). Is this normal? these readings are at just sitting on the desktop with no programs open. Now if I open WinRar and compress some files it shows 2800Ghz (21x)

Specs:
Intel DP55WG mobo
Intel Core i5 750

Ignore CPU-z.

21x ist the multi when 3 or 4 cores are fully loaded. If 2 or 1 core is loaded it clocks up to 3.2 GHz.

Best way to test if turbo is working is to run a benchmark and compare the results. But in your case it IS working. CPU-Z just can't detect is properly.

If the CPU is truly idle (check Task Manager) then EIST (SpeedStep) is not functioning since it should clock down to 1200 Mhz (x9) or so. Check BIOS/CMOS Setup for these advanced options.
