Wait for Haswell. I'm glad i sold my X79 rig when i did. This is a kick in the nuts to everyone who wasted money on that platform

How much do we know about haswell though? Will it be enthusiast friendly? Will there be enough PCIE lanes? What about overclocking?

Ivy bridge has pcie 3.0 and considering no card could max out 2.0 X8 I think it will have enough.

Why do you say that? Nehalem-E (LGA-1366) launched 10 months before the consumer line (LGA-1156)

Intel really hit a double whammy with the memory controller and SAS controller on 2011. Now that they hopefully have a grip on them, the next generation can come much easier/sooner.
But I guess still they would not released IVY-E as they used to plan to be, as they need to sell all these SNB-E chips first. It sounds better if they cancel IVY-E and release Haswell-E earlier

Intel is locking down the Xeon CPUs now. ZERO overclocking via multiplier. Check out the EVGA forums... Intel isn't likely to release unlocked Xeons... ever again. That 16c/32t overclocked system isn't happening.

then we do it the old fashion way and use the bclk.
