Here's another link (and this one is five months old...)
Intel is putting a similar technology in Prescott, an enhanced version of the Pentium 4 expected next month, according to computer manufacturers.
Like I said... Just because one source says something (based on premature evidence) and then other sources spread the misinformation, doesn't make it true.

Misinformation is spread around the internet every single day.

Intel could help the situation alot if they clarified a few things:
Is it functionally equivelant?
Is it compatible? And if so, why name it something else?
Doesn't seem like they're releasing documentation to developers since both Linus and Theo have gotten pissed at them.

I normally think pretty highly of Intel, but in this case, they're just fscking things up.

Just because Linus is unhappy with Intel, definitely does not draw the conclusion that Intel is "fscking things up".

And Linus being pissed at Intel is nothing new. I don't know if you've noticed, but he hates Intel.

Intel holds onto the ideals of Intellectual Property over technology.

I'll be looking for tech documentation on the differences between XD and NX, and how to take advantage of XD. Hopefully there is a link at intel.com for them to send me some books and stuff. If AMD can afford it, Intel definitely can. ;)

Did you read Theo's mail then?
Theo may be a bit of an asshole, but he does tend to always call it as he sees it, and if Intel gave him documentation about NX/XD he'd surely mention it, and Intel would have gotten some free good press.

So again, for reasons I can't fathom, Intel is holding out on documentation, refusing to give it to developers, and refusing to set the record straight on NX vs XD, as well as the lack of segementation in IA-32e mode.
Theo & Co have obviously gotten hold of IA-32e hardware, you'd think if Intel had implemented NX but decided to give it another name, or implemented a solution of their own, they'd at least send some docs along with their preview hardware explaining this.

Im not saying Intel is evil, considdering we've both been around for some time you should know I tend not to do that(except for the occasional jab at MS, but hey, sometimes you just have to ;)), but what they're doing right now just doesn't make any sense, except maybe for them.
Of course maybe they have some great business related reasons for what they're doing, but just cause it's good for business doesn't mean I have to like it.

Intel's been bad about documentation for a while now...

Yeah, but this time around it's worse than usual.
Not releasing docs for one of their GigE NIC's is one thing, not even telling people about important features like NX(XD, whatever) is another, especially when those people are flaming them for it in mailing lists and forums.

I think it's the same stuff. People flame them all the time for not realeasing networking docs. Hell, the fxp used to be the "best network adapter" for OpenBSD. It's recently changed to a (IIRC) non-intel gigabit card.

I was referring more to the fact that many companies are bad about docs due to bureaucracy, Sun and the UltraSPARC-III for example.
But in this case, the scope seems to be bigger since there are so many people that don't know much, if anything, about what Intel is doing.
At the very least they could throw people a friggin bone.

And no, buzzwords about TCPA, LeGrande, etc is not a bone, that's more like giving people a rancid steak.
