Intel to develop a GPU?

What irritates me about gfx cards is the current high prices/performance.
The high water mark of performance has risen to the astronomical price of an sli-setup and the price of a high end gfx card is higher than a good gaming console.

ATI and Nvidia have too much of a foothold in the gamers market. No one would buy the Intel graphics card anyway.

the computational power is there because graphics processors are designed to do a relatively simple task in comparison to what a general purpose OOO processor does. graphics are massively parallel, and the processors are as well. regular code is not

i would def buy it as i would buy from any gpu company that can make a good chip for a good price. but i have a feeling intel's gpu prices won't be low, they will probably be on par with the rest of the market. the only factor that would lower prices is competition. which usually benefits the consumer anyways

as for wizboy11 the 'gamer' market is only a portion like 20%?(probably less)of the market. most of the market is whatever dell decides to sell and dell already uses intel cpu's . when/if intel makes better gpus than ati i bet you'd buy one too

I still remember the Intel i740 8MB agp card. That card was not bad for it's time. Great D3D performance

Anyone who builds a better card for less will sell it, and intel only needs to make an ok card to take a huge chunk of the market from ATI/iNvida. It's called marketing, and Intel is very good at it.

Do the white shirt guys have what it takes to care and play in the gaming market? Have they historically made CPU's which stood up to the competition in this space? Did they seem to care?

It takes more than just technical know-how IMO. If I was a 3D developer, I might be very interested in getting a pro card from Intel, but I have some doubts that this company has what it takes to pay attention to the gamer market.

People that buy seperate cards make up a very small percentage. Most discrete cards are sold in dells and stuff. Those companies will jump on Intel right away, it'll be cheaper and maybe even better.

Im not an Intel fan AT ALL, but if they make a video card that will do the job at least as well as the ATi, Nvidia competition, and doesnt cost too much (and hopefully they dont shoot themselves in the foot, and only make it compatible with Intel chipsets or something), then I would buy one.
