Yikes!!! They are already taking a hit with the recent dumping of their old lineup...

Intel stockholders who haven't been reamed in the you know what with Intel's stock price over the last few quarters should sell now and buy back when we see the real bottom....if you have lost 2 much you better stay in it and see if Conroe rights the ship and gets this stock back to 25-30 where it should be...

Stockholders are not going to be happy about the hemoraging....

They want to regain lost marketshare!!! reminds me of the saying "cut off the nose to spite the face".....Makes sense why analyst dont have Intel as any type of buy now...

Edit: Full article...

Isn't that July 23rd date in conjunction with the release of Conroe as well?

60% is aggressive; wow is the only word I have right now

Probably...Also probably right in line with the way the conroes perform...However if I was a stockholder I would say Conroe's should have been priced higher...especially in relationship to performance of much more expensive X2 chips...

All I say is I would like to see AMD counter just to get some cheap chips to go in my existing mobos...

This is just for existing P4/PD's right? Conroe prices are going to remain as indicated?
Sorry, but did not take the time to read the article. Every time I try, my phone rings. So I gave up. :)

Yes...PDs dropping by 15%, and P4s by 60%. I believe these cuts have already been announced. I think that the street price for Conroes will actually be significantly higher than the published price due to availability...

Isn't it interesting how AMD used to sell processors with the best price/performance ratio. Since the dual cores have been out, Intel has been taking over the dual core value market. AMD needs to either lower prices or release some value dual cores since it looks like Intel is attacking at all price and performance levels.

i dont care about price cuts regarding pre-conroe intel processors. i like to see dropping prices for amd x2 cpus, but even with that AMDs facing hard times in the performance sector. I dont think price cuts will be a convincing answer to Conroe power. Price wars are nice to watch and some guys might get happy with cheap cpu upgrades or budget systems, but if ur goin for a whole new rig and want high performance and even some overclock, why would one invest in AM2? Not even sure how long AM2 will really last. I just wonder what kind a rabbit AMD can pull out of their hat.

IF you can live without virtualization technology you will be able to get a Pentium D 945 for 163US on July 23rd which is the same clock frequnecy as the Pentium D 950.

No...If I read this correctly, the Pentium D 930 (dual core) will go for ~ $280 (15% on the D, 60% on single core).

I think the 60% P4 price drop will be significant enough to encourage budget builders to scoop up those remaining P4 from Intel's inventories. I've heard after HP and tier-1 vendors get their share of conroe, there will be very few left in retail channel so the retail price will be expected to be very very high at least until Q1 of 2007 when they shift 100% production to conroe. So probably no conroe for most of us this year unless you buy a pre-build system.

Is intel really going to cut the price of the Pentium 4 506 Prescott 533MHz to $36?? That's what a 60% discount would be.

That would be below their cost...I believe that the 60% is an average (which of course means that some will be an even bigger cut).

The pricing charts for July 23rd for Intel are quite well known and have been floating around for awhile now, Pentium D is now going for 190US on Newegg TODAY, I don't know where the hell your getting your 280US figure from.

By the time July 23rd rolls around Pentum D 930 won't have changed from today and will still officially be 178US.

Even if you still mean the Pentium D 950 it will be falling from 316US to 224US about 29% or so.

It varies on the processor.

Mate...read it again. He said the PD 950, not 930 (currently selling for $339 at Newegg). :)

Edit: My bad and my typo...sorry

True...ALL the chips are dropping soon (AMD and Intel). Never lament the past...you needed the chip when you needed the chip. Think of it this way, you sacrificed a little speed to use a newer system for all that time. I seriously dowubt that you would see much of a visual difference between the performance of the 930 and the 950.

Chips will ALWAYS be faster tomorrow...Conroe isn't some uber-powerful chip that will never be beat, in fact it will be second best within a year. And then Intel (should) again come up with something that takes back the crown after K8L...and on...and on...etc...
The only reason that there's such excitement now is that Intel has been in the longest slump that anyone's ever seen, and it's sort of like seeing the Cubs finally win the World Series right now.

I am curious your assuming for sure, that K8L will surpass Conroe, however your saying Intel only "should" surpass the K8L?

How could you use the words will for AMD but only should for Intel???

Only because I don't know enough about what Intel will be releasing. I've seen much documentation on K8L, but I must profess ignorance to the next generation Intel design...

Ok, so let me get this clearly, so from the documentation you have seen, your pretty confident K8L should surpass Conroe, to me this at best in only a guess because paper specs may or may not correlate to actual performance numbers.

Until we see performance of the final product of K8L, we don't know for sure. At the minimum we need to see benchmarks of close to shipping silicon close to the shipping clockspeeds.

This looks to be the same situation we had when Intel released paper specification on Core Architecture. Dicussion is still open to many different interpretations.

Agreed...

Edit: Even Conroe (with all of the partial reviews) is still a guess as we haven't seen shipping systems yet. I agree that it's always a guess until you get the system to market (though with Conroe we can certainly make a much better guess than K8L!)

Edit2: BTW, I have a high enough confidence in K8L that I've placed a 7 figure "bet" on it...and believe me when I tell you that I wouldn't do that on a whim. ;)

Viditor, what documentation have you seen? Are you privy to information the rest of us are not? OR are you basing your opinion on common information? I would like some more hard information on k8L to decide my own upgrade future.
