52x 32x 16x cd burner, dvd rom combo (disc to disc, baby)

still to come....

mx1000 (oh yeah)
water cooling mod (push that preshott to the max)

Why get a cd burner and a dvd burner ? I would get a dvd reader and a dvd burner... They will read faster and quieter, and you can still burn cd's on the dvd burner.

Edit: And likewise, I hope you didn;t get it for gaming......

Look at the AMD fanboys come out~
You mean making GOOD suggestions as asked, and asking questions about usage makes us fanboys ? I haven;t seen anything else in this thread up to this point.

You can not read then. He didnt ASK for suggestions. You replied with fanboy statements of "And likewise, I hope you didn;t get it for gaming......" after another fanboy posts "cool comp, just don't tell me you built it to mainly play games on".

Sorry but thats 100% fanboy. Wear the tag with pride since thats all those statements are.

Cause of course that CPU can't play games very well...... Oh wait it rocks for games. As good as the top end AMD? No, but its damn close enough that RL differances are hardly there.

Get more ram, soon. Other than that, and as you are stoked with your system, enjoy

Actually I have 4 systems. 2 Intel and 2 AMD. Its just so painfully obvious reading some threads when fanboys have to crap on someones fun.

Because some DVD Burners are picky with CD Media.. I have an NEC 3500a and the media i've used for the past year at 52x will only be seen by my dvd-rw as 32x. Sure it's only a few minutes difference, but when you're burning 5-10 at a time it gets to be annoying.

Looks like a nice computer. But, just curious, what was your reasoning for going intel? (not trying to start a flamewar, im just honestly interested in the reasoning behind that decision.)

whoa... i shoulda come back sooner....

i went intel cuz it's cheaper... seriously. pci e mobo solutions are cheaper and more numerous. to get that kind of price and selection from amd i have to go agp. so add twenty dollars to my gfx card. processor @ 150: considering how this thing will overclock is a great deal regardless of it's comparison to AMD. HD audio.... in fact, it's a seperate piece from the mobo (dfi is the shit.... ordered the asus p5gdc deluxe and after some hassle, ended up with this ... i'm satisfied) so ground noise is eliminated.

gaming....

definitely! just gaming? no way. if all i wanted to do was game, i'da got a fukin xbox... but i didn't. the thought of multitasking, even though it's a touchy subject (thread went somewhere in the three hundreds i believe), really appealed to me. i do a lot of encoding, burning to disc, gaming and i don't wanna wait for one to finish before starting the other. am i saying AMD can't do that? certainly not, but do i know that, either? again, no.

i think nvidia and amd dropped the ball on adopting pci e. the selection is almost non existent. i was able to read three or four different reviews about each of my mobo possibilities. unless i wanna buy the exhorbident asus sli, or the perennially poor overclocking gigabyte, i was grab baggin it.

i bought that 512 stick to add to the 128 from my office depot comp-n-abox. kingston value ram. i'm not sure if i should wait and get a gig of good shit, or get another KVR 512 to better my chances at running them dual channel at decent latencies.

i got two burners so that i can disc to disc, duh. no fukin around... that's how i do it. anyways, it's was a one day sale with a pack of 50 blanks at the egg. 40 bucks, i think.

uh.... this is gonna be my first build, so amd and intel fanboys alike wish me luck. i've got mechBgon's guide on hand for when i do actually put it together. i'm a noob from the hands on perspective, but if i'm gonna spend 500 bucks i do my homework.

Jason, I appreciate what you and Becky are trying to do, but i'm not sweating it, so i don't see any reason for you to, either.

Zebo, nuff respect. i've read in on some of your sh!t, and appreciate the congradulatory nod.

anyways....

any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated... do's, don'ts and things of that nature.

the case is pretty fukin sweet, too. when (if) i get this baby runnin', i'll take some pics and post them for you guys to check out.

Looks like a great system. I've built both Intel and AMD systems and both are ok.

As for advice on your first build, the only things I would say are follow the guide, go slow and have fun.

Good luck on the ocing....here's to hoping you get 4ghz!!!

I think it is a nice system, and I can attest my p4 setup was better at multitasking then this A64. Though the straight up speed of this one is faster. I think they both are great platforms. They need to be tailored to the right situations...

Like I said nice mobo. AMDs got crap ass junk in PCIe right now. Chaintech can't even hit 220 and ASUS is waaaaaay overpriced in addition to being bug master delux Rev 1.0.

the mobo forum was/is a mess with ASUS sli boards that suck 🙂

i think the "fanboy" tag came out due to the comments like, "i hope you didn't get that for gaming"...

first of all, for many people there's alot more to a pc than just gaming. secondly, the amd simply isn't THAT much faster. hl2 for example is about 5fps faster on my a64 than my intel - hardly enough to make a big fuss about. sure, the amd is a bit faster in most situations (in my exp. on avg. about 10% give or take), but that doesn't necessarily make it the best solution for everyone. for the majority of people either will do just fine, and there are certainly tasks my intel is better suited than my amd..

there's certainly room in this world for both 😉
