Intel SSD questions

I have a 80gb gen 1 x25-m intel SSd. I'm just wondering if it's worth selling for a sandforce drive?

I've got a chance on a ocz vertex 2 160gb sandforce for 240.

Should I sell and buy? Any performance difference?

That's not a bad price, hard not to buy it at that price. Only thing I'm hesitant about right now is the Micron and Corsair drives that are about to hit retailers. They offer good price/GB ratios and better performance. So it'll be up to you if the performance difference is worth it.

i'm also waiting on the G3 intel SSDs. now is not really the best time to buy an SSD. even with the new SF SSDs on the horizon, existing ones are sure to drop in price to make room.

sandforce drives are problematic. stick with the intel. if you like intel reliablility you will get that not from sandforce. i still can't get PATA bridge to work with sandforce but with intel it works just dandy.

Even after the newest firmware. dunno why the sandforce folks don't implement sata fully/correctly.

As an owner of 2 Intel drives (including the Gen1 X-18M) and 2 Sandforce drives, I haven't had any trouble with the Sandforce drives. However they seemed to have lost performance over time - more than than the Intel drives. In real life, the Intel drives seem a little faster after a few months. It might be worth waiting for the G3 Intel drives, to see if that offers better value, or at least shakes up the marketplace a bit.

If you can get around $100 for the old 80GB drive, though, the upgrade price isn't too bad.

Any guesstimate on when we might see those?
