Intel SSD Owners - Has your wear indicator moved?

Hulk

Diamond Member
I have an Intel 320 120GB about 18 months old and a 330 240GB that is about 6 months old. The normalized wear indicator on both is still at 100%. They are both boot drives and not hammered or anything but I was wondering if anyone's wear indicator has moved and now much data you've written?

The host writes on my 330 is 611GB.
1660GB writes on my 320. Assuming WA of 4 that's about 55 writes out of ?

611GB writes is about 3 write cycles for that SSD. The NAND in it is rated for 3000.
That's 0.1%, so you got a long way before it should move.

If I'm reading the SMART data right, my 80G 320 is at 98%. That's with it being the drive housing both OS and /home volumes so it sees a fairly significant amount of writes.

4.2 TB on my oldest drive, 120GB Intel G2. 14000ish powered on hours.

Wear meter at 100% life.

So far so good, still 0%. Strictly using both of these as OS drives though, all my data is on my server on a raid of spindle drives.

My OCZ drive shows 0 wear (guessing it's a percentage) and not sure which attribute to look at for the Intel one. (second drive)

These are fairly new as well. Maybe half a year or so. Given I barely write to them they'll probably last me till they die of random failure, or I decide to retire them.

The Media Wear Indicator (MWI) is broken in the SSD 330, it won't go below 100% no matter how much you write. Intel was promising a firmware update in December but at least so far I haven't seen it.

The 2 300GB 320 here havent moved.

The now what, 3 year old 80GB G2 moved 1% and the 4 year old or how long it is now G1 80GB moved 13% with 28014 on hours and 10.61TB writes.

All of them gets heavily used.

How many writes?

I'm not sure, when I tried to do the math last night it indicated something like 8TB of writes which seems unlikely so I'm thinking I may have been off by 1 so maybe around 800G?

I run Debian sid and update every other day or so and my /home is obviously where my profile is so its probably the most frequently written to volume on average.

Your 4 year old G1 provides some interesting data.

I'm now using two 160GB G2 in raid but I can show numbers for both.

The tool box shows both SSD's as having 100% life. The second drive has only been in use for a month so thats a given with that one. The first SSD has been in service since dec 24th 2009.
