Intel Speedstep settings?

Howdy,

I was just wondering if there are any settings within Windows XP for the mobile cpus with the Speedstep technology? It looks as though my cpu upgrade is running on it's lower speed instead of its higher speed (650MHz instead of 800MHz).

try setting the power profile to home office/desktop when plugged in, that locks my PM at full speed. This won't result in good battery life unplugged though.

Thanks for the info... tried that and it still runs at 650MHz... maybe those dip switches on the motherboard will do something once I phone Twinhead up

Im having the same problem with my Armada M700, it's a 650 and its running at 500. I was running win2k before this and it was fine. Any fixes? i'm going to try what Vadatajs said

If I remember correctly from an article I read, I remember something about Windows XP having issues with the speedstep property. Apparently Win2K has no problems, but XP does... will find the article...

Mind you, Windows XP is supposed to automatically recognize the speedstep settings and adjust when needed.

read through the user manual on that page... should highlight how to fix it

Also, see if you can get a BIOS update and if the notebook manufacturer offers a "Intel SpeedStep technology driver"... did a quick search on the net, and HP seems to offer a lot of these drivers

there is a speedstep option in my compaq bios, its enabled, i tried disabling it and same results....

When you used Windows 2000 you had no problems with speedstep?

Have you used CPUID or CPU-z to check the speed? Also, have you tried using p95TT to see if it ramps to full speed under heavy load?

CPU-z shows 650MHz, DXDIAG.EXE shows 650MHz, and AIDA32 shows 650MHz...

what is "p95TT"?

Download p95v237.exe then run the torture test which will put a heavy load on the system. If the full CPU speed doesn't display in CPU-z thne I would say it is indeed failing to ramp to full speed and you should contact the manufacturer at that point.

never tried prime95 on it, but its only under winxp. On win2k and below work fine @650.

Just as a reminder this notebook was only meant to run the first version micro-pga2 Pentium IIIs (450MHz and 500MHz which did not have speedstep technology) and micro-pga2 Celerons which did not have speedstep(450Mhz - 900MHz).

Even if I can not get it to work in WinXP up to the full 800MHz, then I am happy with a PIII @ 650MHz, as that is a major improvement over a Celeron 450MHz with only 128K cache.

If WinXP won't allow the speedstep to work I'll try Windows 2000... and if that doesn't work either I am still happy with 650MHz...

This was an experiment with an older notebook, and I am happy that I proved a few people wrong by getting a Mobile PIII above 500MHz to work

hey, i just installed win2k again. When running the Intel speedstep app with max performance, cpu-z and sandra run my laptop at full speed, 650. Then again some reason, dxdiag only shows 500.
