$315 CND = DO IT! :D

I cannot explain how awesome it's been having my Intel X25-M since last fall...if you want a fast OS drive, you cannot go wrong with them :)

Thanks for the translation. Assuming there is an Intel update, I think that it will coincide at latest with Win 7 final release. I really want to buy this product for several PCs but the cost is still high and dropping. I think I will wait for update.

newegg has it on sale TODAY from 3pm to midnight... 40$ off.

Blurg, not newegg.ca :(

Its 315 cdn now!
Thats it, i picked one up :D

Oh boy, the temptations.

I am 90% sure I'll pull the trigger before the night is out, lol.

I was about to pick it up yesterday when it was $349, every other place had it for $390 plus. Now its even cheaper and free shipping to boot, cant go wrong. Spoil yourself just once... this week :)

ie: reduce price of old drive to clear inventory. Then release new updated version with Trim capabilities, etc. built in. Its about time for an Intel revision everyone else has been through a lot of revisions / controllers in less time than Intel's drives have been out.

yea, the wording intel used when talking about trim makes it SOUND like they might only include trim in a "future model" they are about to release. so clear out current inventory first... but what if the new one is much more expensive and the X25 doesn't go down in price? I could just end up missing a great deal...

Now that there is some real competition I doubt the prices will go back up.

But I'm still holding out for a speedy SSD with TRIM built in so I don't have to mess with firmware updates & reinstalling my OS.

I already did a firmware update on my X-25M (to the 5/1/2009 firmware, NOT TRIM).
While it did require changing their stupid ISO download to a bootable memory card, my OS stayed intact.

The CD drivers on the ISOs for the Intel firmware upgrades stupidly are incompatible with SATA CD drives, so the BIOS needs to have SATA put in IDE compatiblity mode for the CD drivers on the CD to work.... but then it's trying to flash an SATA SSD drive, this is pretty stupid.

I did this shortly before upgrading to Windows 7 and found other low level HD utility silliness as well. I got an ISO for HDD erase to try to put the drive back in the factory erased state before installing Windows 7. This has the HDD erase utility in a .CAB file, which it tries to expand into a RAM disk so it can run it. The RAM disk requires EMM386. EMM386 gets an error trying to determine how much RAM is in my system (6GB) and doesn't load. So I ended up putting HDD Erase on the bootable memory card as well.

Translation - we like to do things in block-release format, we don't like to make "mini release" or "micro release" updates like microsoft does. With us you wait until service pack 2 is ready, it may be 6 months between service packs but we don't do patch tuesday, ok?

Translation - there is an update, we have it already but aren't about to release it just yet, see above, but the update is there and some day you should be able to find it.

Translation - self-explanatory.

Bottom line, whenever Intel is going to announce product line N+1 in the coming months is when you can expect them to likewise announce the timeline for their releasing a trim update to product line N.

Based on this interview with an Intel engineer, I tend to agree with this assessment. In particular, skip down to the question of "What file system is best to use with an SSD?" From the answer to this, I suspect the SSDs are designed with TRIM in mind already, and they were waiting for an OS to test it with to turn it on, and it will be turned on when they release new firmware for all drives with the next SSD product release.
