The only major disappointment for me in the new platform is the obvious lack of USB 3.0 integrated. It'll still be a great upgrade to get a new mobo with both SATA 6gb and USB 3.0 (with add on chip). That itself is a nice reason to change motherboards, especially if you also plan to get the faster ssds for 2011.

I don't see that as a major issues at all, there are barely any USB 3.0 devices on the market. And intel is waiting until 2012 to push their own tech.

Plus all the current USB 3.0 motherboards that i've seen require you to route cables all the way to the back of the system to get the front usb ports working and IMO is fugly.

Russian,

Everywhere i look i see people saying SB has double the bandwidth of lynnfield's lanes. Is that correct?

If you mean PCI-E lanes. Yes that's correct. Sandy Bridge has 8 pci-e 2.0 lanes at 5GT each. The old platform was only 2.5gt each.

Wouldn't that effectively make them as fast as X16 or am i way off?

I'm just hoping that SB drops the price of the 980x down, even if it is just in the resale market. If I can snag one for around $300 that would be a pretty nice deal and keep me from upgrading for another couple years (been on i7 for about a year an a half so far and still hummin' along).

I hadn't gotten around to reading Anand's yet. I knew SATA 6gig was on it I just didn't know Intel had updated their own chipset for it.

That is so bizarre to me. Anand's articles are always the first one I read unless they don't get posted on time. Isn't that why all of us are here?

While I agree Anandtech quality is top notch you are doing yourself any disservice by not reading reviews else.

To get a really good idea of products its best to read multiple reviews from different people who have different ways of testing.

Variety is the spice of life as they say!

Someone else posted this in another forum and I will tell you what I told them. unless you can find one used on Ebay/forums for a good price that is a dream that will never happen.

If you look at retail pricing for previous extreme edition processors the prices have gone up not down once something faster is released. Intel just doesn't drop prices on those processors ever.

After the release of Core i7 800 series and 32nm Westmere (1156), Socket 1366 is dead for 99% of users.
I wonder why anyone will even consider to buy a 1366 platform now that SBs are released.

*sigh*

i bet you 1366 sales will still be higher then 1155 sales for one simple reason.

I don't believe they will.

You think consumers rule the computer world?

Do you know the ratio of consumer to enterprise is almost 1:4 in the computer world correct?

Meaning, consumers hold a very small share. The bulk is in enterprise which hasnt gotten 1155.

Word has it there not even getting 1155, its going to get something else and 2011.

Do you think a lot of people will migrate to SB?
I sense more people who are on 1156 will probably skip 1155 because of the 1156 stunt intel pulled, and will probably actually SAVE up for a 2011 this time.

1366 users will probably laugh 1155 off, and wait for 2011.

AMD users or old Intel users might bite SB...
But i expect more people to wait on 2011.

Now because everyone is waiting on 2011, i expect intel to DELAY 2011. :(

Yep it's a luxury chip. It's like luxury cars, prices never really go down. That's why I buy budget high end or mid-range. No need to pay extra for nothing.

Why is that? Sandy Bridge seems ideal for an enterprise solution.

i heard its a 13XX variant.

im sure you guys seen or heard about it.

Its not 1366, but its something simular. (i heard along my lines... not saying its fact)

LGA2011 is slatted for enterprise.
1155 i dont think so, or Supermicro, Tyan, and the other enterprise board builders would have a working product by now.

Yeah, thats what I meant by resale market. I know Intel wouldn't slash the price at all.
