Intel RST and Windows 10

Every time I try to update my RST driver to the latest version (14.5.0.1081) which supports Windows 10, I get a platform not supported error

I have an X79 chipset board, so I should be supported even if I'm using a single SSD on AHCI.. Anyone else run into this?

The message means your Intel Chipset and not the OS.

No, only the latest Intel Chipsets from 8-Series up are natively supported by the Intel RST drivers of the 14.x.x.xxxx series.

Thanks Fernando 1. I never would have known, as Intel themselves don't advertise that fact..

Do you recommend sticking with the Microsoft AHCI driver, or using an older Intel version?

I'm definitely interested in this thread.

Where I presently run a Win7 x64 Ultimate OS and contemplating playing with Win10 x64 Pro - I've already download the Win10 x64 Pro EN ISO.

No doubt I will keep my Win7 OS protected through GHOST Image BackUps but where is Win10 leading me?

I'm in no hurry to UpGrade but can't believe MS's Win10 doesn't include the latest Intel IRST Driver's for their newest OS.

Tried going from RST driver 12.9.0.1001 to the newest one 14.5.0.1081 and that turned into a non booting machine.

I was thinking ahead and created a restore point before the driver install.

Trim is currently working in Windows 10 with RST 12.9.0.1001 on modded X58

Also the Optimizer in the intel SSD toolbox no longer runs on windows 10 and 7 it was fine.

Not a big deal since I have working trim but figured would post it anyways.

Assuming your specs are accurate, how did you even get it to install? Supposedly the x58 and x79 chipset are not compatible with the software.

*Edit* Oh wait nevermind. I see that you have RAID.. Although it still shouldn't install technically speaking..

Although the Intel SATA RAID Controllers of all Intel Chipsets resp. Southbridges from ICH8R up (except X79 and X99) are shown within the Device Manager with the same DeviceID DEV_2822, there are big differences between them. That is the reason, why the newest Intel RST drivers do not correctly work with old Intel Chipsets/Southbridges.
By the way: DEV_2822 is just the externally visible DeviceID, the internal - absolutely different - DeviceIDs of the Intel SATA RAID Controllers can be checked by the SATA ID Tool, which has been developed by Dufus and presented within >this< thread.

No, I would let everything as it is, save the most important data somewhere outside the system drive and just start the upgrade procedure.
Once the upgrade has been completely finished and the OS is shown as being activated, I recommend to do a fresh install of Win10.
As last step you can check out, which AHCI/RAID driver is the best for your individual system.

For current chipsets, RST 14.5.2.1088 WHQL was recently released.

I have tested them with my Z97 system in AHCI and RAID0 mode and compared them with other AHCI and RAID drivers (look >here< for the results).
My impression: The new Intel RST drivers v14 have a great performance potential, but until now Intel hasn't released a stable version, which is worth to use it at daily work.
