Per usual once I install this I lose "Safely Remove Hardware" notification icons for HDDs. Does this piece of driver actually improve HDD performance? I am not running RAID.

If there is an improvement, is it worth over losing the window's native hot-swap functionality?
 
Anyone has an input? I am sure others have experienced the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon disappearing once Intel storage drivers are installed?
 
Intel RST should install not only the latest RAID drivers but the latest AHCI drivers as well. It should only help performance. I can't speak on the hardware removal issue.
 
RST is used more to allow u to manage intel matrix raid if u need it.

Matrix raid allows u scale your existing raid by adding new drives to it.
Its a really cool feature about the ICH#R platforms that support matrix raid.

as for removing a drive from the array, i have no clue.
Never had to remove a drive unless it failed.
