Intel Proclaims Hyper-Threading Volume Breakthrough

So?
That's like AMD making a press release saying they've sold, say, 5 million AMD64s. No point whatsoever

Yeah, press releases are fairly useless. I'm actually considering getting a P4E based system and am reluctant because of all the performance issues I've heard about.

Care to elaborate?

Weeellll, when I Google "Prescott runs hot?" I get hundreds of hits that don't necessarily reflect positively on it.
Note that I am not passing judgement or trolling, I'm researching a new system. Good info appreciated.

I dindnt think your were trolling or judging - just wondering....so I was trying to get more info. Personally I prefer Northwoods or Gallatins over Prescotts. Do you know what chip you were interested in? You can find some nice combos out there. Frys runs retail 3.2c (Northwood) and mobo combinations for under $200 regularly. If your lucky youll get a 30 cap 3.2, which is my backup chip. It runs stable under all conditions at 3.8.

The mobo frys supplies however, while free, is an ECS 848p which doesnt take advantage of hyperthreading. You might a get a few dollars off ebay for it and use that to fund more purchases.

We just got 5 3.0 Prescott machines. I'm not impressed at all. They're not even noticeably faster than the non-HT 2.8 machines we have.

Yes, it does support HT. I have one gathering dust from a combo deal.

More of a "milestone" than a "breakthrough"(which would indicate something new, such as a technological breakthrough), now they just need to become Performance competitive with AMD again.

Jealous?

Nah. Really, I'm not - think of it this way:
Does Intel selling 50 million HT chips make their performance any faster or introduce any new features that we have not seen before?

Or, for my AMD example, does selling 5 million AMD64s follow the same mantra?

It's just dick-waving, honestly.

If you got, swing it baby.

But right now, "Intel don't got it". More like pissing in the wind.

Says the jealous one.

Just because Mark "FatWallete.com" 900 doenst like the fact Intel is #1 in the business means nothing. AMD will always be number two. But hey, two out of three aint bad if you include VIAs efforts.

It doesn't matter if they are number two right now, they are still better right now, so I buy them. I don't care that Intel is number one, I get more performance for less money, and you Intel guys get your CPU's for less due to good compitition, so you should like them also.
